I would like to get at a healthy weight for pregnancy. I just thought it would be easier to loose some weight before I gain during pregancy and I want a healthy pregnancy. I also want to feel better about the way I look and feel. My husband tells me that I am sexy and beautiful, but I just don't feel it. I would also like my husband to loose weight with me. He keeps saying how much he has gained (I think he still looks good). We can't go to the gym because our town does not have one. I would like to start walking with him again like when we were dating, but I just hit the wall with it. I make healthy meals and snacks and try not to have junk in the house, but he will go and buy it. I can't watch what he eats all the time because he is a truck driver and eats ALOT of junk on the road. I am starting to do an exersice dvd and walking, but I just don't know what else to do and espeacially with him. His saying is "I gotta die of something" or "I'd rather die fat and happy than thin and starved"
Please HELP!!!!!
C.

I don't know if this is an option for you but a few months after my baby was born I stopped eating meat. I had done a lot of reading and found that breastfeeding babies of vegetarian mothers are actually healthier and that many reputable Drs and organizations recommend a veg. diet for all stages of life, including pregnancy and childhood. I lost ten pounds in a month and a half. No, it wasn't pregnancy weight since I only gained 7 lbs. with this pregnancy. It just came off with no real effort on my part. I not only lost weight but had more energy, felt better, and slept better.
Hope this helps,
A.

I had the same problem and kudos to you for taking a pro-active approach.
I wasn't able to talk him into it until just recently and my daughter is now 3years old. The appraoch that I finally took was to show him that we would not be able to keep you with our daughter if we didn't do something. I reminded him about how we used to go hiking, and rock climbing. I took him to learn to sail and we are making retirment plans buy a boat and sail wherever we want. He can't wait to have the grandchildren aboard for the summers. (Yes, we are only in our 20's, but it is never too soon, and we should be able to retire fairly young because of the planning.)
He realized that we wouldn't be able to do any of these things if we kept eating like we have been. He still slips, but when he is with me he eats pretty well. I don't expect him to give up the junk food with the guys, but a little change goees a long way.
Good luck and let him know that you love him so much that you want a long, active life with him.

Hi C.-

Starting a family is one of the best reasons for you and your husband to get healthy. Explain to your husband how important it is for him to be around for you and the children as they grow up. Explain that you don't want to have to do it alone if something were to happen to him. Also, does your husband have life insurance? One of the things that motivated me to take better care of myself was when we looked into life insurance rates to buy private insurance for me once I was a stay at home mom and no longer had my employer paying for my life insurance. For me, losing just 20 pounds made a significant difference in the amount we have to pay in premiums. If that is something that you are going to need to buy privately (especially once you have children) that might motivate him.

Good Luck,
K.

C.,

Check out www.afterbaby.com
It is to help with weight loss and nutrition before during and after pregnancy. The program, if followed really does work. I am on this program to lose my prego weight. So far I have lost over 16 inches and 7 lbs. NO exercising. Although I am going to start exercising so I can lose faster and tone.

It also works for men too.

Hello, C.. As a personal trainer my advice is regarding your husband is don't bother him about it. He will not do anything until he is ready. You cannot make him. The only thing you can do is be an example. Just leave him alone about it.
As for you, how much weight are you trying to lose? What is your deadline? Have you made any progress so far? Knowing these things will help you get on the right program and stay on track to achieve your goal.

Good for you wanting to get in better shape now.

The best thing I did was join www.sparkpeople.com

It is a free weightloss/healthy lifestyle website online that really helped me start eating healthier, watching my calories and exercising.

I have lost 20 post-pregnancy pounds and am back into my size 6/8s My husband has now 8 months later decided to join me in healthier eating and exercise.

I know my pregnancies would have been easier if I had been in shape before...but now if we are blessed with a surprise I will be ready.

You can get some exercise DVD's...I go to the gym, but a DVD would make you feel part of a class. I take step, yoga, pilates, and body sculpting...I know there are DVDs out there that teach all of those...and your local library might even carry them so you can try them first or a video store.

Good luck and {{{{{hugs}}}}}

Hi C.! Congratulations on taking the steps you need to get yourself in better shape. You are correct, it will make you feel better....and, after all, it's not about what others think....it's how YOU feel and what YOU think.... Continue your workouts and walks..... I kept waiting for my husband to "do it with me" and I got chunky..... a couple weeks after he saw I was serious, he joined in.... Now, he will bike ride and walk with me, and some weight training, but he will probably NEVER do 10-Minute Trainer and most positively not Turbo Jam, for sure! LOL!

On another note....you are 21 years young....enjoy your husband and don't be in too big of a hurry to have a little one.... I remember beings so excited and wanting a baby and my dr wanted me to do fertility because I couldn't seem to get pregnant. I told him and my husband that I would not do that unless I wasn't pregnant by the time I was 25. Well, apparently God had a plan because I delivered my daughter on a Friday and turned 25 the next day!

Either way..... only you know what's right for you..... GOOD LUCK!

Good for you for starting so young! It's never to late to adopt a healthy lifestyle. My husband and I started to slip up early on and we both gained a bit of weight. I remember my husband looking in the mirror one day and saying, "I'm getting fat. When did this happen?" I had just had my second child and was ready to get back to business. The best thing I ever did for myself was to learn how to do the Weight Watchers plan. I didn't ever attend a meeting, but I learned the system and bought the books from ebay. I lost 25 lbs. and we joined a gym. We are both in better shape then we've ever been! I can now wear size 6 and I'm 36 with 3 kids!! This is not to brag, but to show that learning to eat healthy and with the right portions had a HUGE impact on our lives. We do NOT starve ourselves, but we do limit how often we eat out. And the junk food is definitly limited. We opt for healthy snacks like dried fruit, beef jerky, etc. Oh, and I love how the kids now eat so many healthy foods just like us!! They ask for yogurt, mango, cranberries, nuts, etc... You can't force your husband to want to change, but you can make the changes for yourself and maybe over time he will join you. A good heart-to-heart might help. Explain to him that you don't want to "let yourself go" and you would like for him to make the same commitment for the marriage. Hopefully the two of you can make each other accountable for eating right and getting exercise.

You did not say how heavy you both are that you feel that you need to loose weight. Next time he goes to the Dr. make a point of going with him and see what the Dr. says.
As to loosing weight before having a baby true. Easier now that later. But again you did not say how heavy you are. This may not really be necessary. Check with your Dr. he will better be able to tell you if this is really necessary.Watching what you eat while is not an easy job, your body wants and needs things sometimes.True you will gain weight with your pregnancy and it is very hard to get rid of after the baby just take care of your self.
