Can anyone recommend a great pre-school (with no religious affiliation) in or near Waldo or Brookside? I have a 2 year old little boy who needs a great part time pre-school. He has been raised at home so far, and needs to become acclimated with other kids and in a structured loving and diverse environment. Any recommendations would be sooooo appreciated. Thanks !!

Brookside Day School has a pre-school, located around 55th & Troost. It's always been a great school. Also, the Berkley School on the UMKC campus (about a block from Brookside Day)is one of the best in the city, however, it is difficult to get in as they are so in demand. You may fair better than I since you have a 2 yr old. I had an infant and there were no openings for her.

We highly recommend the Mothers Day Out, Rainbow School, at 77th & Holmes. Although it is through South-Broadland Presby Church, religious stuff was never pushed on the kids. It is run by a fabulous lady who's been the principal for almost 20 years. She values individuality, kindness/caring, and diversity.

My daughter started at 18 months and we loved it enough that my son started when he was only 3 months old (I worked part-time then). Rainbow School has also been a great connection through the years for many things--tball, soccer, dance class, art classes, play dates, neighborhood kids. Now both are at Border Star Montessori Elementary in Brookside & have friends that they've known since they were babies/toddlers!

Also if you have want any information on Border Star, we'd be happy to share. The school starts with Preschool, age 3, and goes through 6th grade. This is our 8th year there!!

Hi there,
I have a licensed daycare with a structured preschool setting near 81st Terr & Nall in P.V.. My daily rate is $30.00. I am open from 7:30am to 5:30pm. I provide breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks. I am enrolled in the Kansas food program. We eat healthy good food. Through this summer I have 5 part time kids. Depending on the day there may be 2 here or 4. I want to keep my program small so 6 will be my maximum on any day. Their ages are 20 months to 3 yrs. My own kids are 3 and 8, They will be here most every day. My lower level is dedicated to the kids, it is bright and colorful and walks out to the back yard. We have tons of toys and activities inside and out. I love to do art projects with the kids. This summer we will be spending a lot of time outside playing. We have a sand and water table, a house, club house set, bubbles, side walk paint, and spinklers. I try to involve learning in every fun thing we do! Please feel free to come meet me and the kids to see what we have to offer! Its sure to be a fun summer here!

Thank you so much, J.

My son is 2 and goes to Bannister Child Development (at the Federal complex at Bannister and Troost). We love it. They have a wonderful facility and a well trained, very experienced staff and a great curriculum. They have also recently "gone green" with all their cleaning supplies in an effort to expose young children to fewer harsh chemicals. I don't know if they have openings for part-time, but it might be worth a call. The Director is Cheryl. You can reach her at ###-###-####.
