I have seen lots of ads for the no-no system...you can find it on the internet...seems pretty good..it's about $89 if I remember correctly.
My boyfriend's daughter will be 12 next month. She has a few issues that I'm unable to help her with, as I never had them growing up. She has a lot of acne, particular across her forehead, and dark facial hair above her top lip. She's really becoming self-conscious about them. Her dad had parent/teacher conferences last night and also spoke with the school social worker. She said that although the girl is pretty young, she can tell it's beginning to affect her and recommends that we begin to take action. Mom is out of the picture, so we can't look to her for guidance in these issues. So I have 2 questions. What is the best way to remove facial hair for girls? We've discussed waxing, threading, and bleaching, and are unsure which would be best for her. As far as the acne goes, she does have a prescription cream, but it doesn't give the best results. Dad is unwilling to use Proactiv, as he thinks it's too many chemicals and too expensive for a young woman. As I said, I haven't had any experience with facial hair removal or extensive acne, so I really don't know what's best. Thanks for your help.

I've been using the Sally Hanson facial bleach since I was about 12. I still use it. Simple. Easy. It's common and nothing to be ashamed of. I'm even fair hair and skin. Let her know LOTS of women use it. It's one of our little secrets! :-)
I don't know what would be best for acne, especially if she already has a prescription and it's not working. Maybe you could also help her get some better foundation to help cover it too. As for the hair removal, waxing at the salon each time can be pricey. It needs to be done every couple of weeks. I started using Sally Hanson products for facial hair removal when I was 13-14. I used the bleach for years, and then started using the remover cream. Just make sure she leaves it on for the whole time or it won't remove all the hair.
Hi A.....I may be way off (and actually hope I am) but please do a little reading on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) if you are unfamiliar with it. I never had the symptoms you describe, but I did have others as a teen and was not diagnosed until I was 34 and suffering from infertility.
Onset of PCOS can occur with puberty. Symptoms like acne and hirsutism (excessive hair growth) can be confused for normal puberty. A PCOS diagnosis is not the end of the world, but as someone who suffers with it, it would have been nice to know and figure out treatment and just ways to deal with it way earlier. A good pediatric endocrinologist or a gyne who deals with teens would be the way to go if after reading you and your boyfriend suspect that PCOS is a possibility. I am in Chicago as well and know from experience there are great doctors here to deal with this problem.......I have posted a few links below to get you started.....hope this helps.......susan

As a skin care consultant, I would recommend using Organic products like Clear Now in such conditions rather than harsh chemical based

Both these problems may be from hormone imbalance due to the process of puberty. There is a herbal product that comes from chaste tree berry (Vitex agnus castus) that often helps with this, as well as any other problems that come from the same source of imbalanced hormones, including also those of menopause. (The product I have used is by Source Naturals and is called "Full Spectrum Vitex"...) Chaste berry acts by improving pituitary function, which in turn regulates the other endocrine glands. Over a month or two the acne should diminish with this, and the hair growth may also balance out. Oil of oregano diluted at least 50% with a carrier oil can be applied to acne spots and will remove infection and redness quite quickly. Total avoidance of any type of hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil in the diet (read all food labels!) may also help a lot with the acne, not to mention overall hormone balance.
I have two daughters, one pre-teen and one teen, both with the same issues. This is what really has helped them both - drinking lots of water to help the oils that cause the pimples and washing twice a day with an over the counter facial was (noxema, clearsil, nutrogena), I agree that nothing with to many chemicals at such a young age. I tweeze my girls (their upper lip and their eyebrows - both very hairy). I have taken my older one to get threaded, but I does hurt more. It has helped them both ALOT with them being self-conscious issues. Hope this helps.
Acne is a medical condition and can be treated. If her prescription meds are not working I highly doubt Proactive will work. She needs to go back to the dermatologist. She could also use hypoallergenic foundation to cover her acne. A hypoallergenic foundation will not clog her pores or make her acne worse but I bet will boost her self confidence.
Re: the hair facial hair... Take her to a salon and have it waxed. My friend has been waxing her daughter's unibrow since age 6. It is really not a big deal.
I'd say go and get her waxed. It's super quick and the pain only lasts for 20 seconds at most.
As for the acne - I'd just buy her the proactive and see how it works. What dad doesn't know won't hurt him. And it will put in place a nice bond between you and her. If proactive doesn't work, so see a dermatologist. And don't tell your hubby about all of the chemicals she will be using courtesy od the dr.
Definitely wax! It gets easier and less painful every time, and the hairs actually get finer and lighter colored over time :-)
I have always had acne problems, probably from 5th grade through college. I had to really get into a set cleansing/astringent/topical cream routine. Proactiv really worked for me, I would try hard to convince your husband to order it :-)
