I had mine tied druing my c-section with my 2nd set of twins. I wish I had researched it more. I feel like I have horrible periods and PMS since. My PMS is so bad I'm having to go back on the pill to fix it. You may want to look into it fully before you do it. I want to have mine reversed and have my husband get fixed instead.

I had my tubes tied after my 2nd c-section. No difference in recovery at all. Glad I did it! T.

I had my tubal ligation after a vaginal birth and heard of course it would have been much easier after a C section since I would have already been open. However I wanted to get it done while I was in the hospital and am very happy I did. The recovery wasn't too bad (they had to make a small incision in my belly button) since I was laying in bed for a few days anyway. I have three kids and my third came while on the pill and I am happy I no longer have to worry about birth control and am very happy with my 3. I don't think I could handle any more kids. Good luck.

My sister did it 6 months ago and was soo happy to have it done.
No separate recovery time, no difference at all. They are in there anyway!
Congrats on the new baby!

I was pregnant 10 times and have two sons. One miscarriage and then my 1st son, and then all miscarriages until my 2nd son. Needless to say, when my 2nd son was safely on his way, I made plans to end this nightmare. Since son 1 had been an emergency c-section, I planned for son 2 to be a c-section as well. I knew the best thing for my mental and physical health moving forward was to end the cycle of pregnancy madness, so I scheduled the tubal ligation to be done while I was on the table after the c-section. I highly recommend this IF you already are having an operation. Here's the way I see it...you already have to recover from your main surgery, why not add this in which in no way increases discomfort or recovery time? Don't have another surgery a day or two or week after having a baby. I hear about this and think, "HECK NO!! I've got enough physical and mental challenges right now. I'm not adding ANOTHER surgery on my plate with a new baby if I don't have to." Best decision I ever made. HOWEVER, if I didn't have to have surgery with my c-section already, I would not take this route. I'm a firm believer in men being snipped, a quick, simple, in-office & non-evasive procedure. Also, please remember that c-sections are ONLY 99% effective like the pill (I had endometrial ablation additionally to be safe). Lastly, just make sure you want to sterilize yourself before doing so. For me it was 100% the right choice, but I like that you have to decide well in advance and sign the papers before you become emotionally involved in the moment. Discuss this with your family and feel right in your heart before you sign. Good Luck!

Hi S.:
I had the same procedure with my son. He was a planned c-section. It only took a couple of minutes and I didn't have any longer recovery time.It was fast and easy. I know a couple of friends who have had it done at a later time and it seems that they experience more discomfort having it done later. So I say go for it.
Congrats on the new addition to your family!!

I was in your exact situation (had 2 girls and gave birth to a boy in Oct.) and had my tubes tied after my 3rd C-section. It went very smoothly and did not add any time to my recovery afterwards. My husband had said he was willing to get a vasectomy(sp?), but it didn't make sense to me to have him go through that recovery when I was already going to be opened up. 2 birds... 1 stone is what I say.

I didn't have a c-section but I had them tied the very next morning after having my youngest son. I was DONE with being pregnant EVER again.

I was very sore for a few (only about 2 or 3 I think) days afterwards but it went smoothly and I haven't regretted it for one single minute.

I just had a c-section and tubes tied 5 weeks ago. This is my 2nd c-section and the recovery is the same. I have two boys and this last one was a girl and I knew I was done having kids. I thought I was going to be emotional about being sterile, but I know I made the right decision. Good luck to you and take your time recovering.

Greatest decision I made. Just make sure to sign papers at least 30 days in advance.

Hi S.,
I haven't had the experience, but I'm a nurse and I've been in on a lot of c/s. The tubal ligation is quick, painless and you don't even know it's going on. If you're sure about wanting to "cut the ties", go for it. Better then than later.

I have had friends get their tubes tied after their c-sections. They were all very happy to have it done after the delivery to prevent having to go to surgery again at a later date. You are already in the hospital after the c-section so then you have time to heal before you go home with your new bundle of joy. Versus another surgery with heal time at home (because I do believe it is an outpatient surgery). The tubes tied later, I have heard, is uncomfortable because they fill your abdomen with air to push the tubes upward. Thus leaving you feeling bloated and very uncomfortable for a while.

Good luck and congratulations on your new baby boy.

I had this experience after having my second child. I have a boy and the second was a girl so I made the decision to have my tubes tied after my c-section (had I not needed a c-section they would not have done it right after giving birth to my daughter). Everything worked out perfectly. I didn't feel any additional pain or discomfort and it was quick. I'm glad I did it. If you and your husband are 100% sure you don't want any more kids, it's a good idea to have your tubes tied right after the baby is born instead of scheduling an appointment at a later day and having to go through the discomfort and pain of that process. Good luck to you!

I did. Sort of one stop shopping! I think it added to the pain but 2 surgeries didn't make sense.
