Hello ladies I need some ideas, we just found out that my brother and his wife are expecting. I'd like to put together a "pregnancy gift basket" as a surprise, any ideas? Some things for the months ahead. Thanks.

A book for reading, a book about pregnancy (I prefer the girlfriends guide), a gift certificate for a massage, some lotions, candles. Anything relaxing is great.

What a wonderful idea.

I love the idea of putting together a thoughtfull gift basket w/ belly creams, healthy snacks, journal to write in and a good read (loved the Jenny McCarthy book when I was preggers, my husband enjoyed it too)...an additional thought would be one of those long pregnancy pillows to help her sleep.

some things i wished i would've gotten the first time i was preggo... not as classy, maybe, but well worth it:
- tylonol (because its the only pain reliever you can take)
- the most expensive, soft toilet paper
- gift cert for pedicure
- gift card to whatever nice fast food joint she likes (my favourite was panera)... because somedays i just couldn't handle making food for myself but i would be so hungry or thirsty!
- one of those handheld fans/water bottle mister things... for the hot flashes!
- of course, cocoa butter for her belly
- a pair of crocs... no matter what you think of how they look, they are the most comfortable and easiest to put on!
- gift cert or cash so SHE can go buy the baby something (i can't tell you how many well-intentioned gifts i got for my babies that i wanted to return!)

T.,
You've gotten some great ideas in your responses but I'd also suggest surfing sites on the web for ideas. It works for me all the time when I'm stumped for gift basket or stocking stuffer ideas. You'd be surprised how much stuff you'll find that you never even thought of.
Also, one of my favorite gifts to give to a new mom-to-be is a sexy little negligee or even a skinny little sweater or anything to remind her that she won't always be this big and uncomfortable. My sister-in-law did it for me when I was pregnant with my twins & it did my self esteem a world of good. My first reaction was "I'll never be able to fit into this!" She assured me that I would & she was right. In the meantime, I'd look at it when I was so big I couldn't see me feet and it was comforting to know that the light at the end of the tunnel wasn't an oncoming train!
Good Luck!

Something I think can come in very handy is Epsom Salts. Pregnant or not!
Not sure of the price range but a manicure and pedicure are always great too. Espcially to help her feel like herself come the later months.
I always liked "What to Expect While Expecting" whic is a good book to help you get through certain stages or pregnancy. One that I missed until after the fact was DON'T CUT YOUR HAIR-lol.
If she has a favorite perfume, body wash or spray that might be a good touch.

I loved the book, THE PREGNANCY BIBLE (editors Joanne Stone, Keith Eddleman) very cool pictures of what the baby looks like at each week of pregnancy and how it develops.

There is a pregnancy journal that is a week by week that gives details about how the baby is growing each week - it might even be called My Pregnancy Journal Week by Week...it is wonderful for any first time parents. The Body Shop has peppermint foot lotion - ahhhh how good that feels on tired pregnant feet.

some suggestions are snacks that are good for you like peanuts, high fiber cereals, crackers, cheese, apples, fruitbars, granola bars, etc. A fruit arrangement from edible arrangements, a Snoodle pillow, some preggo t-shirts, maternity tanks, a momento box for all the cards that she will get at her shower, a pregnancy book (your baby - week by week, is a good one),and a picture frame for her ultrasound pics.

I think some belly cream (the anti stretch mark stuff), the belly band so you can wear your own jeans as long as possible, maybe a GC to a maternity store, a pregnancy diary or some books on pregnancy (I like the Jenny McCarthy one myself.

What a sweet idea!
I like a lot of the suggestions -- especially books (both keepsake and informative) and GC to a maternity store.
My only other suggestion I can think of besides the great ones already mentioned, is a nice water bottle!

Hi Tracy,
Congrats on the newest addition to your family! I would recommend putting some Belly Bars and/or Belly Chews in the basket. They are SO yummy and have equal nutrients to a pre-natel vitamin in a delicious bar. I was hooked thru my second pregnancy all the way thru nursing! At over $3/bar they are pricey but well worth it. There is only one store in my town (Burlington,VT) that sells them but you can call around your local "mommy" stores or buy online. Not sure of the web address but u can google it. Also, a nice prenatal massage gift certificate is always nice to get! Good luck! I'm sure she will love whatever you pick out!

Hi T., What about a baby name book and some cocoa butter for belly. A gift certificate for a prenatal massage or mani/pedi. Some preggy pops to fight nausea. Belly bands so she can stay in her regular clothes longer. What to Expect When You're Expecting.

My sil just found out she was pregnant and my mil and I put together a basket just like this, she was so excited!

Congratulations!

The book "What to Expect When You're Expecting" if she doesn't already have it, or "What To Expect the First Year". Great books. How about some pampering items like foot-soak stuff; a gift certificate for a manicure; if she has long hair, a pretty hair accessory; some special caffeine free tea bags if she likes tea; some comfy slipper-socks?
