Pregnancy Mask - Alexander, AR

I was wondering if anyone could give me advise on how to get rid of the dark spots above my upper lip and between my brows. My second child is 11 months old now and I would love to get rid of these spots. Someone told me the other day it looked like I had drank something that stained my face. Makeup makes it look worse. I use microderm abrasion on it and it still hasn't helped.

What can I do next?

Have you tried vanishing cream or skin bleach?

Talk to a dermatologist and see what they recommend...

I used the Mary Kay Microderm and it worked very well. After 2 uses I noticed my patches lighter. I used it once a week for 2 months and I didn't notice any discoloration after that. It is $50 I think, so it is a little expensive but worth it!

Obagi-C worked wonders for me--Patricia Wexler's skin Brightening moisturizer also worked well. Wexler's line is available at Bath&Body Works--Obagi line is only at dermatologist's office. IPL is a more costly procedure that was recommended to me--but creams worked great. Good luck and use sunscreen which helps alot since the sun tends to make it worse. But if you are breastfeeding--need to ask your doctor about these creams since the bleaching agent(s) in them may not be appropriate when breastfedding.

i had a terrible pregnancy mask. i tried everything over the counter possible. Aveno, Neutrogena, Arbonne...you name it i tried it. nothing worked. 20 months later i finally went to the dermatologist and he gave me an RX for tri-luma. it has worked wonders. my mask is just about gone. i do wear a moisturizer and foundation with sunscreen - at least SPF 15. i had several people tell me abou the obaji. but they said it is very drying and hard on your skin. the tri-luma is expensive $125 since my insuarnce would not pay for. but is worth every penny.

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

I just learned about this from my midwives yesterday!! They said that vitamin B12 will help. Having a dark mask of pregnancy, they say, is a sign of B12 deficiency, so it's important to take it for a bigger reason: your and your baby's health. I went out and got some right away.

Here's what the health food store guy told me: the best form of B12 is a sublingual, because the stomach acid destroys non-food forms of it. You want to get METHYLCOBALAMIN form of it (there are other forms of B12 on the market that won't do you any good because they're not absorbable, so get it in methylcobalamin form; write the name down and look for it on the packaging at the store).

It will probably take a little while for your current skin cells to go through their life cycle and be replaced by lighter ones, but take heart. It will get better! Meanwhile, make an appointment with a trained make-up artist, and s/he will know how to minimize its appearance.

Also, wear a natural sunscreen (the conventional ones have harmful chemicals, esp. for a pregnant woman) and cover up when you go out. The more pigment changes your skin goes through, the more that mask pops out.

And it does completely resolve after you give birth.

Have you tried the bleaching cream with sun screen? I think it's called Jolie - they sell it in Walmart. My husband gets dark spots on his face and he uses it. However, if you are breastfeeding, I would ask your doctor if it's ok. If that doesn't work, I'd ask my doctor to send me to a dermatologist.

I had a red spot under my eye that my dermatologist said that she could remove with a laser but would be expensive. I tried the fade cream from avon and the spot disappeared. The cream was only about $5 and worked perfectly.

I'm 38, have a 3yr old, and never heard of a pregnancy mask, but I used to sell Arbonne. They have great products that can really help skin staining. I had a sister in law that has a mask looking situation that looked like a shadow of a side burn. Arbonne products lightened it dramatically where she could cover it with make-up. I don't sell them anymore because I don't have time to deal with inventory but I love their products!!!

C.,
My name is J. Lovette and I am a BeautiControl Skin Care specialist. I would recommend that you continue using the microderm abrasion at least 2 times a week, no more than that, and you might try a product made by BeautiControl called Vitamin C Brightening Elixer. Cell Block-C Intensive Brightening Elixr contains BeautiControl's exclusive Tri-C Complex for overall skin health and protection. A blend of ingredients target skin discolorations resulting in an overall brighter complexion and the reduced appearance of age spots and hyperpigmentation. Key ingredients include: (1) a unique brightening complex that targets age spots (2) three stable forms of Vitamin C combined for overall skin health and protection and (3) antioxidants such as white tea and vitamin E to protect cells from further damage.

All BeautiControl products are 100% guaranteed, if you are not satisifed for any reason you may exchange for a different product or get your money back.

If you are interesed please just give me a call at ###-###-#### or ###-###-#### anytime.

God Bless,

They're called "liver spots" and some women are more likely to get them than others...I go to a natural doctor & got good results...You might ask at your local health food store.

I hate to make this response sound like I am trying to sell you something, so I will tell you you can get this product from anyone who sells Mary Kay. The Even Complexion Essence really does seem to help. My sister had those dark spots and they get worse during the summer. The main key is to use a moisturizer with sunscreen EVERY DAY, because the sun makes it worse. You have to be very consistent with the Even Complexion Essence and it takes a few weeks, but she had great success with it! It is good that you are also using a microdermabrasion--that helps too. Good luck!

well, if you are breastfeeding, or have recently stopped it will take some time to fade. also, wear TONS of sunscreen. with the approach of warm weather, it will get worse.
Try professional microderm abrasions. it take many many many expensive treatments in a row to lighten it.

Just wear lots of sunscreen and exfoliate every day really well. it will help some.
Took mine over a year to lighten. hormomes have to settle back into place.

Microderm abrasion will only worsen your problem. One item that I have found especially helpful with all of my problems (i.e. Rosacea, acne, acne scars, Oil, and redness). And, I recently started selling it because I love it so much! I know this sounds like some crazy scheme but, I promise it's not. The company is Arbonne and the product that I use is the Arbonne Intelligence System. I tried Mary Kay & Proactiv and every other crazy scheme that you can possibly think of but, this is the most effective product that I have ever used! I love it! I do not use the Exfoliator or the conditioning oil though. But, it totally works. Hope that this helps. :)

Hi C.! I am a consultant with Arbonne and we have some products that can help you. My sister has a birthmark under her chin that is just dark enough to look she has a make up line. She uses the RE9 serum and eye cream on it and now it is barely noticable! Feel free to call or email me. All of our products have a 45 day moneyback guarentee! ____@____.com or ###-###-####

I have been using the Olay Definity foam (at Sam's much cheaper that in stores) and was pleased to discover a much more even tone and lightening of my spots (top of cheek, upper lip) after a few weeks. I just started using the under eye stuff from Olay, same line, and now have less black under the eyeballs too!! I use it sparingly and get 2 1/2 months of daily applications out of my one can. It works well with my gel hydrating stuff and the oil free miosturiser I use over it. Good luck!

Hey! From my experience after having three boys, the pregnancy mask fades but never truly goes away! After my first son, my brother told me I looked like a football player! He's almost fifteen and you can barely see those anymore at all. My second son gave me some a little further out and they have faded, he's soon to be five. My youngest son also gave me more, a little higher and a little lower than the last, and they too have faded. He recently turned two. No one seems to notice them at all anymore! I can't say the same for the stretch marks, though! LOL
