I would like to know if anyone has any serious remedies for pregnancy-induced nausea. I am one of those people that get sick all day long for at least 4 months- and this pregnancy I would really like to know if there is anything I can do to relieve it. PLEASE help!!
Wow! What great advice- thank you all so much!! I had no idea how common severe nausea during pregnancy is. What we go through for our little ones! I did go to the doctor & have been prescribed Reglan which I am to take 4 times a day. I will see how that goes & hopefully I can stop throwing up. Thanks again- I love this site!

I was terribly sick with my first, so bad that I could not even make it to work without being sick multiple times, sleeping on the bathroom floor at night and carrying baggies with me wherever I went. I had never recieved chiropractic care before my pregnancy but my sister worked for one in Califonia and I was running out of options, so I gave it a try. Within a week I had no more morning sickness( I was sick for 6 months) He adjusted my neck, something called my atlas. When I found out I was pregnant with number 2 I went to see him imediatly and had no morning sickness at all. I am new to wisconsin and I have not seen a chiropracter here but anything is worth a try. I tried all of the supplements, lemon drops. ginger etc and nothing hleped but this. I wish you all the best. and hope you find something to help, it is hard to enjoy being pregnant when you feel so awful.

Hi D.! I am pregnant with my second, and due in April. I have had terrible nausea--all day long, which I did not have with my first. Anyway, something that really helped me--it sounds strange--Ginger Altoids. Ginger has long been used in Eastern medicine for all sorts of stomach problems, including nausea, and the Altoids just really helped. I would suck on them throughout the day, and that, coupled with a glass of really super cold ice water helped a great deal. It didn't totally alleviate the nausea, but I could function like a normal person instead of just laying in bed all day. Hope this brings some relief! I know the feeling!

Hi D.,
I know you received a lot of advice on this subject already so hopefully you have already found something that has helped your morning sickness. If not I have a website for you. When my mother had cancer I was directed by a friend to a nutritionist who was able to help her with many simptoms and help her gain strength. I have actually met her and found her to be very intelligent and have continued to seek her advice for other matters and ailments through her website. She has researched many different ailments and illnesses. I know that when I read her page on morning sickness it at least helped to know what caused it - in simple terms not Dr. jargon. Most of her remedies are based on eating healthy so for me they are hard to follow because I am a city girl who grew up on junk food. But I have found that if I at least make the attempt to try what she suggests I see improvement. I have gotten over colds in half the time of my husband with her advice and when it came to morning sickness I had it all day so I knew I had to try something. I was only able to eat the healthy stuff she recommends once a day but it was a major improvement and when I used it for supper or in the evening I found I felt better most of the next day and was able to eat normally during the day too. Here is the website
www.nutritionhelpguide.com/health_concerns/Morning-Sickne... Good Luck with everything!

I had the "all day" morning sickness with both of my pregnancies for the first 20 weeks or so. I found that 1/2 tab of Unisom (an over-the-counter sleep aid) helped, my doctor recommended this. I took before bed and would have some relief the next morning. Anything with ginger seemed to settle my morning sickness too, like ginger snaps, ginger tea, ginger ale or raw ginger. Also, I have heard (not personally tired) that they have these morning sickness bands that you wear on your wrists with magnets in them. Congrats and good luck!

I know what your going through, I had the same thing during my 2nd pregnancy, but it never went away until after I gave birth. I tried the crackers, the toast, and everything the dr. reccommended. I just had to move slow and not get up too fast. I knew I could get through iteverything would be better when the baby arrived and it is. Hang in there if you need to talk contact me I know and completely understand what your going through. I missed 2-3 weeks a month of work during that time and that was tough. I could be doing my work and then seconds later running for the restroom.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I had all day sickness though mine went away by the 4th month. I tried everything that I could and nothing really helped. Though I never tried it, and I did not hear about it until after I had my baby, but you could try pepperment candies, or even tea. As you see alot of the restraunts have pepperment candies for you to have after dinner, because it is suppose to help from feeling icky in the tummy. Another thing that you could try is Catnip tea. I am not sure if it will help or not, but it might be worth a try. You can get the Catnip tea at the health food store, in the bulk tea area. The Catnip tea is suppose to relax you, so it may help your tummy. It helped my son with this gas that he had.. Just some thoughts. :)
But the best thing of all is to talk to your doctor about anything that you are planning on taking to make sure that it is safe for you and your baby while you are pregnant.
Again, Congrats! :)

Some people disagree, but Ginger root really did work for me. Also, I found that lemonaide (it may not help stop the nausea/vomitting) made vomitting less unpleasant.

I would also recommend Zofran- it's the drug that cancer patients take to prevent nausea, and it does need a prescription. I tried all the over the counter stuff for my 1st- and I ended up losing 14 lbs in the 1st trimester from the constant nausea, and I missed alot of work. At about 12 weeks, I started B6-unisom combo. With my 2nd, the doc told me to try the B6 combo when the nausea started (around 6 weeks). That time it didn't work, so he prescribed Zofran. It stopped the nausea, but my appetite didn't come back until week 20. The drug has tested safe for babies, and my doc said it was safer than not being able to give my baby any nutrients!
Good Luck!

I found with my first child that the smell of my own perfume made me sick! Talk about a bummer. To this day I can't smell Cool Water for women. I found the best way to keep from getting sick was keeping a little something in my stomach at all times. It didn't matter if it was a few crackers or half of my dinner. It was best not to eat a whole lot. Just a little something. Hope all works out for you!

It looks like you have gotten a lot of advice. I had hyperemesis my who pregnancy. IV's for fluids until 4 months, vomiting about a month before delivery nauseas until delivery. My Dr. prescribed me Promethazine which is what they give you at the hospital when you get an IV. (There was another kind of nausea pill that only made me hungry) Promethazine and unisom were what got me through the day. No more than two unisom a day. Eating small meals regularly and gingerale or sprite helped me alot because of the excess gas, the carbination helps. Also little mints candy's helped. The red and white candy striped kind. Also I know this sounds stupid but the lemon hard candy's you can get help as well. I hope some of this helps you. Good luck and congratulations!

My all-day morning sickness started on the second day of our trip to Italy and lasted the whole time. What a bummer. When we got back both a mid-wife and the nurses at my clinic recommended stopping my pre-natal vitamin for a few weeks. I did, and was "cured". I immediately felt much much better. I just was careful to eat foods high in folic acid during that time. Wish I'd known about it during trip! Good luck, and congratulations. H.

Congratulations!! I was like that with both of my pregnancies--didn't really ever throw up, just felt nauseaus all day long for at least the 1st trimester. What helped me was eating--I felt better as long as I had food in my stomach (things like crackers). If you wake up feeling sick, keep some food by your bed and have a snack before you even get up! That would be my advice--but try to keep it healthy snacks. :) Good luck!

Hey D.,
First of all, CONGRATS on that little bundle of joy-- You're amazing to have 3! :)
Are you sure it's just morning sickness? I went through 3 doctors before someone diagnosed me with SEVERE Hyperemesis. (I was so sick I couldn't leave bed.) I puked 10-25 times a day, and most days I held down water. They eventually put a permanant pic line in my arm and the poor nurse came daily to check on me. Then? Beautiful drugs. (And I'm not one who likes medicine- but..) I took a series of amazing meds that would keep food down, (I started scarfing taco bell.) It SAVED me, (and my daughter.)
I was so stressed out from puking all the time, and felt so alone. (Single mom.)
Talk to your doctor. Start writing down your symptoms. (It's not always JUST morning sickness.) And the moms who tell you just to 'suck it up, there will be a great reward at the end' - there's a special place in hell. :)
You CAN get through this. Talk to someone. If you feel as if it's really a problem, it probably is. (You know your own body.) Some women react different than others.
Yes- there's going to be AN AMAZING baby at the end of this- but right now that's pretty hard to see.
Deep breaths- (check out www.hyperemesis.com - I'm a sponsored patient rep- email me anytime.)
If it's just morning sickness? Try eating smaller meals- more often. (I always was a fan of the green TUMS when I was pregnant.)
Hang in there.

My doctor recommended the 1/2 tab of unisom with B6. If this doesn't help there are medications you can take that dissolve on your tongue and don't taste too bad. Just ask your doctor and let him know what you've already tried. Good luck and congratulations!

Hi,
I have one suggestion That worked for me and a few of my friends. Get yourself a nice non refridgerated bottle of Coke classic. and sip it warm when needed. The warm coke also works for nausea and vometing in children. Another thing I noticed was my diet I found thatI felt less sick less often if I avoided fatty foods, fried foods, super sweet foods and basically any high calorie "junk foods". Also try 6 small meals rather then the 3 big meals with snacks.

I tried it all both both of my girls...the wrist bands, ginger, frequent meals, protein, Unisom, stopping my prenatals, chiropractor. Of all that the only things I noticed a benefit from : eating regularly helped a tid bit (esp eating starch). The wrist bands helped a bit on the first one only. The only thing that I noticed a benefit from the second time was lemon juice, either in water or straight up. Both were plagued nonetheless with lots of vomitting :o( and constant sickness.
Of course, different things seem to help different people. Maybe you'll be a lucky one and find something that really does work for you!

I too am one of the lucky ones who is sick 24/7! I am now 21 weeks along and it has subsided a bit and now gets really bad at night. I completely feel your pain! It is difficult to do daily things, especailly care for another child, when you are so ill.
No remedies worked for me with either pregnancy - the ginger, the wrist bands, B12, ect..My currant pregnany I finally had to go on Zofran. It is an anti-nausea medication. You obviously would have to talk to your OB, and everyone is different to what they will take. I wish now that I would have taken it my first pregnancy too because it helps SOOO much. It completely helped and I was able to actaully leave the house again with the fear of vomiting in public. I will warn you, it is extremely expensive, but it worked and I was one if for about 6 weeks until I felt the sickness was not as severe. So from about 7 weeks pregnant to 13 weeks.
I wish you luck! Itis hard, especailly when others do not understand how debilitating M/S can be.
God Bless!

I had the same feeling the first few months of my pregnancy. I finally asked my nurse and she told me to take vitamin B6 and UNISOM, yes the sleeping pill. I only took the UNISOM at night and half a vitamin at night and half in the mroning. My doctor said I could take half a UNISOM in the morning but it still made me way too tired. I'm not sure why but it really helped. It took the all day nausea felling away. I would check with your doctor just to make sure it is ok for you to take. Good luck.

I'm pregnant with my 3rd and i was nauseous and vomiting the whole first 4 months. I tried everything. The dr. gave me some Zofran and that didn't even work. I basically lived on saltines and gingerale that whole time and lost about 10lbs. After the 4th month it got better but I had to eat every hour and half or so or I would start getting nauseous again. I'm now in my 8th month and haven't had any morning sickness since about the middle of my 4th month. It all depends on the pregnancy. Each one is different and you just have to try different things until you find what works.

Hi D.,
I had morning sickness until the 6th month. I tried crackers (which works at the beginning, but then I got tired about crackers). I also tried ginger cookies – same thing – work at the beginning….
I tried pops, and they worked ok as well.
For me, the best was that my husband brings me something to our bed (toast with something sweet) before I get up, and then drink lemonade help me too;
Have napkins with a good smell help me too. Some of my friends recommend that I need to breathe; it was helpful to have napkins with good “flavors” to fight with the morning sickness
I also hear that peanut butter helps too (it doesn’t work for me though!)
By the way, I heard that the morning sickness is less dramatic on the 2nd and 3rd pregnancy.
I hope it helps. Good luck and Congratulations!!

First, congratulations! Second, hang in there:) Both of my pregnancies were difficult, nausea and vomiting several times each day (20 weeks the first time, 22 the second with occassional until delivery!). For the second pregnancy, my dr. put me on Zofran; while not ideal by any means, it was necesary due to the extreme nature of my nausea and weight loss (it helped minimize the vomiting to once or twice each day). I lived wearing sea bands (the elastic bands with pressure button--I bought mine at WalMart in the pharmacy area) 24 hours each day except for showering; while it did not eliminate it, it did help substantially. There are also prego pops available in a variety of flavors.

I also had where I was sick all day, especially at 2-3 months pregnant. The best thing is to buy the motion sickness bands and put them on before you get out of bed in the morning and then take them off when you get back in bed at night. You can buy them at Walgreens, Target, and just about anywhere. I was told to eat crackers when getting out of bed in the morning but it never worked and would obviously cause weight gain, so a co-worker suggested the nausea bands and I was never sick again (unless I forgot to put them back on after the shower).
