Pregnant After Tubal?

After our last baby was born, I had a tubal ligation. I had to have a c-section & knew we were done having kids, so I figured that was the best time to have the tubal done.

I'm still nursing our 11 month old and haven't had a period since she was born (not unusual for me at all). I'm beginning to think I may be pregnant again. Lack of period is not my only symptom (swollen & tender abdomen, more frequent peeing, easily upset stomach...not all together unlike PMS too). My husband is going to pick up a test for me today.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been through this? I've said in the past if the Lord had more children for us a tubal wouldn't stop them from coming. :)

So What Happened?

I took the test this morning & it came back negative. I'm really wondering if I'm not confusing pregnancy symptoms with PMS (they're oddly similar at times).

Just for the record, I've gone without a period through most of the times I was nursing...in all I only had 5 periods over the course of 5 years with the first 3 kids because of breast feeding.

Thanks for all the feed back.

June 12th....just started my period. Definitely not pregnant. Maybe I was ovulating.

My sister had a tubal pregnacy after one of them. Be careful and see a Dr if you think you might be pregnant.

With my second son I didnt have a period until I stopped nursing him but with my third I nursed and still had one so I am not sure that its too abnormal not to have one. Take a test and see what it says!

I had a tubal ligation in January 2003 (cut & tied, not burnt), since then I've had 2 pregnancies but both were ectopic (tubals) so miscarried them both. I'd go get checked if I were you just to make sure whats going on. if its a pregnancy, they'll need to watch you more cause of the risk of ectopic.

My sister had a tubal. 12 yrs later she was pregnant. But it was a tubal pregnancy and it burst and she ended up in the hospital very very sick. Don't let this wait - see the Dr to be safe.

We had a nurse practitioner speak to our MOPS group several years ago. She talked about many different things but one thing she mentioned that I was unaware of was that having a tubal ligation following the birth of a child increases your chance of becoming pregnant by 40%, as opposed to having the tubal done at least six weeks after a pregnancy. I was shocked! My doc never informed me of that and I had my tubal done within an hour of delivering my second son.
So chances may be higher than you expect of becoming pregnant again.
If you continue having symptoms and the home test comes back negative don't hesitate caling the doc. It may be a number of other things as well.
Best Wishes :-)

Hello! I also had a tubal ligation, and for the first couple of years, I had a few times when I was really worried I was pregnant. One thing we have to remember is that since we're not on birth control that helps to regulate our hormones, we're not going to have regular cycles. There are times when my boobs will swell up to two weeks before I ever start my period. I used to always know when I was going to start because this used to happen 1-2 days before I started.

I used to take tests too! Now, I just have learned to accept the fact that my hormones are whacked at times, and have learned to just let it go. One thing that has happened to me though is since my second child, after which I went straight from delivery to surgery and had the ligation done, I started having pms for the first time ever! I never experienced any of the moodiness or anything before, and as a matter of fact, thought that it was women's way of having an excuse to act bitchy. But, after my second child, when I was no longer on birth control, I started noticing (and my husband too!) that I was unreasonably grouchy during the middle of my cycle. I talked to my doctor about it after about a year of suffering and paying attention to the time of the month it started, and she said I have PMD. So, now I have a 14 day/month prescription for the lowest dosage of prozac you can have prescribed. Some months I take it a few days, some I don't at all. It's just worse sometimes than it is others. Anyway, that's the only thing that I've had to deal with. Now, I say that my vagina is a "follower" because if I'm around another female very much that is on a regular cycle, mine switches to hers!! It's funny!

I haven't had this happen before but wanted to drop you a line anyway. I find it very refreshing that you recognize that God gives us our children and no matter what we do, it is his plan that will be followed. I'm so glad that you are looking at this with a positive approach, some people wouldn't. Keep it up. God has a plan for you even if you don't entirely understand it all right now. Shannon G.

I wanted to say, first relax and see what the test has to say. Then I would also go in a see the doctor if things don't change. I wanted to let you know that I too have one child with disibilities, so you are so true when you say that life is always full of adventure. But always remember, as you commented, God is in control and I have always said He does have a sense of humor. Hang in there- Keep us posted

S., I am so in the same boat. I wasn't actually worried about being pregnant, but I did go to the Dr. because I did not get my Period after a tubal. My son is over a year old. He is still nursing, maybe 3x day. The Doc said in some rare cases women don't get their period. He said it was nothing to worry about. I haven't found out otherwise, so I'm not worrying. I've thought I was going to get my period several times. I probably won't be blessed enough to never get it back. If anyone deserves to not have a period, It's me. How about you!! It should just be a perk of being done!!!!

I haven't experienced this personally, but I know a friend who had a tubal ligation and then managed to get pregnant again in spite of it. Unfortunately, she had to have a procedure to terminate the pregnancy. After the first procedure, they still didn't completely terminate it and she had to go in for a second procedure. It was terribly trying for them. So it is possible to get pregnant even after a tubal ligation. I wish you the best in whatever happens! K. H.

I had a miscarriage about 9-10 months after having a Tubal. You definatly want to talk to a dr. if you are having discomfort as the odds of this being a tubal pregnancy if you are pregers are very high. I wish you luck and will be praying for you and your family.

Wow! I'm going through the same thing. I've just had our third (and what we thought was our last) child 8 months ago. I too had a tubal after her birth. My periods have been normal since they've returned. I had already had my period this month but this week I had some bleeding (not spotting). My skin has also been really itchy, which is a symptom I've always experienced when pregnant. Could this just be an off month? My doctor didn't seemed worried when I called and inquired so I took a home test first and it was negative. Keep us posted as to what happens!

A couple at my church had both a tubal and a vasectomy... they continued to have several more children (10 in all). So you're right.. if the Lord has more in store for you, they will come lol.
