Pregnant and Worried Due to Medications I Am On!

Do you happen to keep the package inserts? They should give you an idea on the actual statistics. Generally, although medications do raise the risk of something, you still have a very good chance of a healthy, normal pregnancy. Since it's already done, concentrate on the positive.

I just found out I was pregnant after several months of Birthcontol, infact I was about 9-10 weeks when I found out and when I went to the doctor just the other day I told them I was concerned cause I had been taken my BC the whole time (i odviously stoped as soon as I got a positive test) and they told me it was nothing to worry about. My third baby was a mini-pill baby, and I didn't find out about her until about 15wks along! Thankfully she's had no problems at all, and is actually our little advance child who has skipped more than one grade. Go figure! Can't help you on the duflican though-sorry!

I know a few friends who have gotten pregnant on the regular pill and the mini pill and their babies turned out just fine. Some antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of the pill. That is how my sister in law got pregnant. She didn't know they could do that, but she has a healthy baby boy. I would definitely talk to your doctor, but I think you and the baby will be fine. A lot of people do things that are harmful to the baby before they find out they are pregnant and have healthy babies. try to relax and congrats!

I became pregnant while on the nuva ring birth control and was on it for two weeks before I found out I was pregnant. The pregnancy went perfectly and now I have a wonderful healthy little girl. Call your doctor and get scheduled for an ultrasound to make sure everything is going well. Good luck and my prayers are with you.

I also had a HUGE surprise last year when I found out I was pregnant while on birth control. And when I found out I was already 17 and a half weeks I thought it wasn't possible I had not missed one pill and I didn't have any other sympthoms other than I started getting heartburn.

I had been sick so I had taken all kinds of cold medicines and I had hurt my back so I had taken some muscle relaxers. When I found out I was pregnant they told me to stop taking the birth control right away. I wrote a list of everything I had taken and they went through the list and didn't seems worried about them.

My daughter was born a few months later and she is perfectly healthy.

I wouldn't think the medication you are taking would be to harmful to your fetus since they allow you to take it while your breast feeding. But if your worried I would just stop taking it or call your pharmasist if you can't get into the doctor right away.

I have actually talk to a number of women who have gotten pregnant while taking birth control and have had normal pregnancies.

I got pg with my first while on nuvaring (user error...apparently it matters that you don't put it back in late!!) and I had hte nuvaring in for about 5 weeks before I realized I was pg (I would do 4 consecutive for 3 weeks for no periods). Julia turned out fine, she is prococious in fact. The dr said it wasn't ideal but there are much worse things. I also had a wonderful drinking binge about a week before i found out I was pg (so I woulda been about 4 wks). He told me that the body is smart and it knows biologically that you don't know you are pg until 6-8 weeks....so the fetus and the development are well-protected in that time until you can take proper precautions. He may have just been making me feel better ;) But talk to your DR and it sill be fine I'm sure.

I wouldn't be worried about the baby-to-be. There are many filters between baby and mom that baby is usually really well protected.

I would however be a tad more concerned with diflucan while nursing. It can cause severe liver toxicity and since it is excreted in BM, could/maybe be an issue. JMHO.

I had a rash that I was taking medication for which then gave me hives and they gave me all sorts of medications to treat the hives. I found out I was pregnant and was really worried about all the medications, but the doctor reassured me that early on in pregnancy things are usually okay that would definetly not be wise to take later on during the second or third trimester. You have probably caught the pregnancy early enough that whatever medications you were taking couldn't have had too much effect. I would definetly discuss it with your doctor just to be safe and to ease any concerns.

I haven't had children yet but I have worked in the medical profession for 12 years and have talked with many moms who became pregnant unknowingly while on medication, including birth control and antibiotics. In all that time I never saw anyone have complications as long as they immediately stopped the medication as soon as they were aware of the pregnancy. It was most likely too soon for any damage to occur. Most medications are more dangerous later on in the pregnancy, and you and your baby are probably going to be just fine. But of course tell your doctor what happened to be safe. Good luck!

I hope this can ease your fears a little: I was about 3 weeks pregnant (and like you had taken several tests that came up negative) and I had a bone scan done. In case you don't know, in order to do a bone scan they inject RADIOACTIVE material DIRECTLY into your blood stream. 4 days later, I discovered I was pregnant. My daughter is now 18 months old and VERY intelligent, with all the normal fingers and toes, so really, as long as you know now, just stop the meds until you talk to your doc, and you should be fine!

Your OB is the best to ease your fears.
I know tons of babies that are "birth control pill" babies. Where their moms took those pills like clockwork and continued to and low and behold they got pregnant anyway! :)
I don't know anything about the mini pill, but looking it up it says if you do not have your period for more then 60 days, continue but see your Dr for a pregnancy test. So if it is truly dangerous then that is bad advice.
Please see your OBGYN for a blood pregnancy test and have him/her confirm and help you with your concerns.

I got pregnant with our second child after starting my pack of pills one week late. Of course I didn't think I was pregnant and took the whole pack of regular dose pills before I found out I was pregnant. My daughter is just as perfect as our son. I'm sure your doctor will calm your fears today as far as taking the pill. Good luck!

I breastfed my daughter and was on the mini pill. i ended up in the emergency room with a cyst when my daughter was 8 months old, they gave me about 5 shots of morphine and then told me i was 6 weeks pregnant. well almost 9 years later and my son is just fine. so as far as i know very early on in pragnancy you should be ok, good luck.

I would call Utah's Pregnancy Risk Line the number is on their website: http://health.utah.gov/prl/ They examine ALL the research and have real practical answers about what is safe and what isn't, they have perinatologists on staff looking at all the data. They are the best resource for setting your mind at ease.

I believe you should NOT be breastfeeding while on fluconazole. YOu need to check this with your doctor - or look it up online -- right away. When I had a fungal infection and had to take that same medication years ago, my doctors was insistent that I must stop breastfeeding in order to take it. I don't know about the safety while pregnant.

I wouldn't worry about the pill - I got pregnant while on a "regular" BC pill - not the mini pill. I was 7 MONTHS along before I found out, so I was taking the pill for 7 or 7.5 months. My daughter was perfectly fine - she's 3.5 now, smart as a whip. i would definitely check with your doc on the other medicine though. A friend of the family has been a high risk OB for decades, and said that he knew of many many birth control babies - boys and girls, that were all fine. When I talked to him, he was more worried about ibuprofen!

I am no doctor, nor have I done a lot of research on this, but I have heard that the embryo is not subject to many of the things you put in your body for the first week or two. For example, I have heard a couple different stories of women who drank a LOT before they found out they were pregnant and then freaked out that the baby would have fetal alcohol syndrome. Their doctors always said as long as they didn't drink any more, the babies would most likely be fine. And they were. As far as the birth control thing goes, I have a good friend who took the morning after pill because she and her husband weren't ready for kids, as they had only gotten married a month prior. But the pill didn't work and they got pregnant anyway. Now she is glad she got pregnant and her baby is perfectly healthy. I'm not saying that pregnant women should drink/take medicine/take birth control. I'm just saying that if you had a negative pregnancy test pretty recently, your baby probably wasn't subject to the medication for very long. Stress can be just as harmful to a fetus as anything else, so try to relax. And congratulations on your pregnancy!

I didn't like the pill I was on after we first got married, so after 6 months I went off of it for a week before I could get back into the doc. Of coarse that week I got pregnant. Not knowing I was pregnant I started another pill (can't remember what it is called, but definitely more hormones than the mini pill). Anyways, she is totally fine (now 9). Best behaved wonderful daughter. She has a little anxiety, but that just runs in the family. Don't worry, worse things happen to babies in the womb. Worrying isn't good for your baby either. :0)

I would not worry to much.I was pregnant with my son for a month before I even knew. I was so scared because I had been drinking for my b-day and I was also on my medication which were ultrm,eveal,prozac and a muscle relaxer. Anyways my son is just fine. My doctor said that mother nature new what she was doing so the first month your baby is really protected

I'm sure your doc will echo the other moms... it is still early and your body does protect the baby first... think of how many people are taking meds or get really drunk or whatever before they find out they are pregnant>.. not that I'm recommending anything, but well... I'm just saying, it is still early and there is still time to adjust your meds, etc.

Hi J. - definitely call your doctor today so that she can access your situation and prescribe the correct medicine to treat your condition - considering your "condition". Babies are so fragile but also incredibly resilient.
