Has anyone gotten pregnant while on mirena? what was the outcome?

I feel pregnant- I'll call the doctor's to get a blood test done (i heard if your take a HPT it will come out neg b'cuz of the mirena & the best way to find out is a blood test) so I can put my mind to rest. I've had it in for about 15 months. Mirena has stopped my periods pretty much from when I had it put in. Every now & then I feel movement in tummy. I googled pregnancy while on mirena :( there was some good news & a lot of bad news.

I'm happy w/where ever the ball lands- I'd just like to know.
Thank you ladies

Ive known a couple of people who got pregnant on mirena, one lost the baby right away and the other had an ectopic. if you think you're prego you should go in as soon as you can.

Mirena and pregnancy does happen mine ended in a miscarriage at around 8 weeks. Pregnancies can make it full term...even if the mirena is not able to be taken out. I found out when I had severe abdominal pain and went into ER.

I decided to have mine taken out after the pregnancy and chose natural birth control instead...i was not happy with what happened.

Technically, an IUD is both preventative (the hormones) and an abortive device (it thins the lining of the uterus so any fertilized egg won't implant correctly and it all gets carried away by menstruation). So, if both of those parts fail, then you can get viably pregnant. If it's caught early, the Mirena can be removed and the pregnancy can work out. Do get it checked ASAP because, not only can it end an otherwise viable pregnancy, but it can cause an ectopic which you would need to have terminated quickly.

Fingers crossed that everything is alright (either way).

Just my two cents. I've had Mirena for four years now and there have been several times that I have had that "I feel pregnant" thing. Luckily for me they were at time that I KNEW I couldn't have gotten pregnant so it was less of a scare... but weird none the less. TMI but sometimes when I am having stomach issues I can feel stuff moving around in there and if feels a lot like when I was pregnant (gross I know).

FYI blood tests test for the same hormone as the urine test at home, so I think the information you got is a bit off (although blood tests can show SOONER so maybe that's what they meant).

Good luck with everything. Your OB can probably do an ultrasound to confirm.

I had my first mirena in for 6 years (despite being told that "efficacy can't be guaranteed after 5 years") and have been on my second one for 2 years already. I've also had a couple of pregnancy test cos I felt pregnant but they were all negative. The reason we sometimes feel pregnant is due to the progesterone the mirena releases (same hormone we have when pregnant). Let me know how it turns out for you ... obviously, I'm very interested in the outcome as I was told that the mirena is the safest way to prevent pregnancy (other than not doing it at all, of course!) Good luck, either way.

I have had the Mirena IUD twice. The first time, no problems. Loved it. The second time, no problems until.... I got pregnant. I had no idea I was pregnant. It ended up being an ectopic. This was back in January/February of 2010. Due to not knowing I was pregnant and experiencing severe pain, I ended up being taken by ambulance to the hospital, having emergency surgery and losing the baby and 1 of my fallopian tubes. It was a really scary time for our family. Take a test to know for sure. Track your periods (if you're getting them).

A friend of mine got pregnant on Mirena. She ended up having the baby at 28 weeks. He had some lung issues and his lip wasn't fully formed at birth, but he was otherwise healthy. They did some corrective surgery on his lip when he was about 5 months (I think). There's a significant scar, but otherwise, he looks like any other child.

The home pregnancy test will not be affected by the mirena. They detect the hormone HCG and if there is any in your blood it will be in your urine. If you're feeling pregnant there may be enough to test so go test!

I always "felt" pregnant while I had the Minera. I was never actually pregnant. I was glad to get it removed!!
