Im 11 weeks pregnant and I do not have insurance. I was denied medicaid, and now I cannot get on my husbands policy. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? I know we can prepay, but what about the baby? What if something goes wrong? Im really stressed out!

What can I do next?

You know birth is not a medical event. Birth is a natural thing. You don't have to go have checkups just to see that your baby is growing. You could check out a local midwife and consider birthing at home if you wanted to save money. Then you won't be pressured into unnecessary c-sections, epesiotomies, pain meds, etc.

I have a friend who is self-employed and had no maternity coverage. She shopped around a bunch of local hospitals to find out how much a private pay birth would be. She found that Harris Methodist Southwest was the most cost effective. They offered her a bundled package that included her and the baby for only a few hundred dollars less than what I paid for my hospital stay WITH my insurance coverage. Call round and try not to stress...you and baby will be fine!

D., I know it's a hard situation to be in but maybe a fundraiser would be helpful. Do you have a bunch of friends that would be willing to take some fliers around and get some sales to help you? I would love to help you get what you need. I am a Home and Garden Party Fundraising Specialist and there is no fundraiser too small. Let me know if I can help you. www.mistysfrillsanddish.com

I prepaid which ended up a nightmare as i ended up having a c section but paid for the vaginal birth on the payment plan. It ended up costing SO much more because we didn't have the $3000 they wanted WHEN WE LEFT THE HOSPITAL due to the emergency c section they had to do. So that extra $3000 automatically became $6000 because we couldn't pay it!! Should have been illegal I think but what do u do? Anyway, a company called ECI or NCI.. I can't recall which, contacted me after I came home and they were directly linked to Medicaid and they got that amount covered which helped SOO MUCH.

I was just wondering why you cannot get on your husbands insurance. In Texas no insurance can deny a pregnancy and put it as a pre-existing condition. They changed that law years ago. Alsotalk to the wic office.

One option would be to see if you qualify at JPS - they have assistance programs. Some people are very critical of their services, but they have some of the best specialists around. They have a few midwives that are outstanding and you could be seen by them at the health center for women. They have renovated their delivery rooms and they are very nice. You would need to be classified first and then they can let you know how much everything will cost.

Also - your husband should be able to add the new baby the day he/she is born. Congrats!!!

Not sure about this, but could your baby could be on your husband policy. When I had my kids their bills were seperate from mine. So yours would be prepay, but your husband should be allowed to add the baby as a new dependent?
