Prenatal Vitamin Suggestions?

Hi Ladies...you are all such a wonderful wealth of knowledge. I was standing in the pharmacy today checking out the prenatal vitamins. I asked the pharmacist for help and she basically told me to look at the folic acid and iron content to compare. Anyways, outside of that, does anyone have any recommendations for prenatal vitamins (or ones to avoid) - side effects, after taste, etc?

I was on a prescription one with my frist child (when we had great insurance) and it had a built in stool softner. I am looking for a good OTC one now before I become pregnant with number two! Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I don't know what to tell you about what kind is best but I have a trick that has worked for me. I take my vitamin at night in case they might make me sick, I'll be asleep! (I have a little girl that is almost 5 so by the time I get to sleep I sleep pretty sound). Just thought I'd pass that along! I'm due Feb. 19, 2008. Good luck to you! :)

I used One Source Prental Vitamins. They were comparable to most prescription vitamins and I actually found them easier to take. You take 2 small-med. size pills that have a slight coating to them rather than one large horse pill that often has a chalking texture to it. With the prescribed vitamins from my 1st and 2nd pregnancy, I found they had a really bad after taste. It was not so with the One source vitamins. In addition, they are reasonably priced. Good Luck

Rainbow Light is the one that i am on, it has the highest i could find in iron and folic acid. The vitamin shoppe sells it cheaper than the manufacturer. It worked well for me, i didn't have to take additional iron in my pregnancy.

This site tells you the contents in each prenatal vitamin. Hope this helps.

I used the One Source vitamins (at Walmart) for both my pregnancies and didn't have problems either time.

One Source from walmart, you have to take 2 but they are so much smaller than the others so the are much easier to take

Hey C.,
When I was carrying my son and couldn't take the prenatal's the DR. had prescribed, a friend told me that taking children's Flinstones is just as good. I also think Wal-Mart carries an off brand Prenatal vitiam that you can buy with out a prescription.

i had horrible morning sickness with my pregnancy and most prenatal vitamins, prescription and OTC, made it worse. my ob told me to go buy the flinstone vitamins and take 3 a day. they're chewable and taste pretty good b/c they're made for kids. my ob said taking 3 was the same as taking a good rx vitamin, so i took one at b'fast, one after lunch and one before bed. worked great for me. hope this helps

I took Natelle Prefer. They are sugarcoated so they didn't taste bad at all going down! I really liked them. They also helped with my hair loss problem. Instead of keeping my hair, I LOST it! As soon as I started taking Natelle Prefer, I started keeping them.
