If it is not in the budget to send your child somewhere you could work with him yourself. You can find preschool "curriculum" on-line and if you visit the kindergarten and ask what their expectations are you can go from there. You can also get books/workbooks from teacher stores or even walmart and walgreens. Basically give him practice using crayons, pencils and markers. Work with him on writing letters and his name. Review letter sounds and read lots of books. Work on colors and shapes. Allow him to practice with scissors and glue. It takes work and patience, but if it's not in the budget the good news is it is not required before kindergarten. Good luck.
