Preschool Programs - Northbrook/Lincolnshire/BG

I'm usually pretty decisive, so I don't know why I'm having such a hard time deciding on preschools for my daughter who I'd like to enroll in a transitional program in the fall (parent attends for awhile than child goes alone). I'd like to find a place and stick with it until she goes off to kindergarten, but I'm running into difficulty with times being off (due to naps), age limits, etc. I know I can always change my mind later - it would just be easier to get it right the first time. Problem is, I know very little about the schools in the area. Any thoughts on any of the schools below (good or bad, please!)?

Little Ones - Northbrook
Lincolnshire Community Nursery School
Tamarak Country School - Lincolnshire
Kingswood Preschool - Buffalo Grove

Any other suggestions in the area are also welcome. THANKS SO MUCH!

I am a alumni of Little Ones and continue to hear great things about it. My daughter is 15 months and I was considering sending her there when the time comes.

Not sure where you live exactly, but I also hear great things about Bright Beginnings in Wheeling (many northbrook, glenview parents use that school).

Another option is Northbrook Community Nursery School at Willow & Pfingsten.

As a former teacher I would highly suggest observing the classrooms although most schools are probably over by now.

Hope this helped!

If you are willing to travel to Deerfield, I highly recommend Deerfield Community Nursery School. (There is a family in my daughter's class who travel from Lincolnshire.) They have a Mom and Tot class for children at least 18 months old, and for children who are 2 by May 1 they can be in a class called All by Myself which is without a parent. We started my daughter there when we moved to the area 2 years ago from out of state, and it has been wonderful for her and me too! The teachers are fantastic and very skilled in helping children who might have a hard time with separation anxiety. They have one of the smallest child to teacher ratio in the area. My daughter has learned so much not just academically but also socially and has gained much independence and confidence. I can't say enough about the program they have for children.

In addition, if you would like to get to know the other parents (mostly Moms who stay at home), there are social events which you can take part in. The moms have a once a month social night out. Also it is a parent-run Board of Directors, so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved if you would like to be part of shaping the school. The other families are extremely friendly, and some of my closest friends here are other moms from her school.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to talk more...

If money isn't an issue, you'll probably want to go with the program that is closest to you and where you'll more likely have kids that will go to grade school with your child.

I heard they are all great. Another great preschool that my son went to is Bright Beginings in Wheeling. Most kids who go there are from Northbrook and Buffalo Grove. The director, Leah, is very nice and the teachers are great. I took my son to observe and the teachers let him participate. They also have a camp for the summer. The kids are placed with the teacher they will have for the year so it is a great transition into school. Good luck!

My daughter did a program at little ones,it was not a transitional program, andit was very cute. The staff was very caring and the program was low key. We only went there for a year because I wanted to put my daughter in a Deerfield school, so she would get to know local kids. It was a very cute program. My daughter loved it!

I disliked The Little Ones a great deal. I thought she covered every square inch with kids art work and called it stimulating I called it TOTAL sensory overload. It is one big room with no partitions and it was so loud that we had to step outside to talk. How can a small child focus in an environment like that?
my 2 cents...

I have heard great things about Kingswood Preschool in BG. I have a friend who sends her two year old there. She loves the curriculum and the teachers!
