Hi,
My twins are about to end their first year at preschool. I am looking for ideas for appropriate gifts for their teachers. I appreciate any suggestions.

My mom is a preschool teacher and this year one of the moms made a scrapbook with pictures of each kid in the class and a little bio about each of them. She actually used Creative Memories - (they have some thing where you can create a book online and then they bind it and mail it to you) It ended up looking like a yearbook. My Mom loves this and says she wishes she had one for every year!

My favorite gifts from my students were home baked goodies, homemade frozen meals, gift certificates to Target or a restaurant, and gift certificates to a salon to get a manicure or massage or something.
Hope this helps!

My mother was a pre-school teacher for many years and she would bring home tons of gifts at the end of every year from gift certificates to candy and coffee mugs. She appreciated everything of course but if anyone ever asked her for an idea of what she would like she always said a new toy for the room or a new book for the library or even a gift certificate for her to pick out something for the classroom. You can always write a dedication in the cover of the book that it came from your children and other families may do the same the next year. One of my children had a pre-school teacher that would post a list of things that they could use for the room so if anyone wanted to help get them they could use an idea from the list. Also one year my oldest son gave his teacher a plant for her garden so she would always remember him! Good luck!

For the end of the year I usually give a potted herb to each teacher. At holiday time I made each teacher a decorative journal/notebook that was personalized.

As a former preschool teacher and a current 2nd grade teacher, I have received many gifts from my students. I truly love the cards from kids and parents, letting me know what they have enjoyed about having kids in my class. If you want to buy something, gift card are great, whether it's $5 to a coffee shop, a restaurant...anything that makes life easier/less stessful after a day with kids! Hope this helps.

We're just finishing up our 3rd year of preschool...it's always tough! I've done the candles/gift certificates... It's hard because he has 3 teachers. This year, I thought I would do something a little different (that a former teacher recommended to me). We donated a flock of ducks (you can choose different animals) from www.heifer.org, which gives animals to people/families all over the world who really need them. My son picked the ducks, and I thought it was a cool idea...something different, but something that will definitely benefit someone!

Books are great too though (I am also an Usborne Books consultant, coincidentally enough: www.stephsbooks.com). I think whatever you give, write a nice note telling how much you all appreciate everything their teachers did for them. Good luck!!

My daughter is now graduating from preschool tomorrow. Here are some things that we have given her teachers, a bracelet that I made that has the primary colors on it that has a poem to go with it that explain the meanings of the colors for teachers, she just gave them a tiny flower pot that we got at walmart for like $.88 cents that they can grow forget me nots in and a key chain that says "With god all things are possible"(because her preschool is in a church), I thought the forget me nots were a good idea because she is done with preschool now and she does not want to be forgotten and the teachers love flowers and stuff. We also gave them a pin of an apple with a poem for teachers too.

I teach K3 & K4.

What to get: magnetic/sticky notepads, blank notecards, set of colored Sharpies, giftcards for any nearby restaurants (fast food & carryout for the lunch hour), flowers

Someone once gave me a package of strawberries and a bottle of margarita mix. That was awesome and creative! (and well-wrapped)
Another family sent along a "to go" menu for Panera and took our order for lunch to be delivered on a pre-arranged date. Another favorite was a metal bookmark engraved with my name.

What NOT to get: candles & bath sets

Favorite gifts are gift certificates to Target, Caribou, Creative KidStuff, Lakeshore learning, Barnes & Noble or a local bookshop, Brueggers, etc. Gift Certificates are the best.

I am a consultant for Usborne Books. Preschool teachers love getting our books as gifts! Visit my website to check them out - www.ubah.com/g2687. My recommendation would be The Big Book of Playtime Activities, since it contains lots of activities and ideas for new things to do in class! We also have a book called Making Cards that is great for anyone into card making or scrapbooking. Books for the class or books for the teacher - you can't go wrong!

For my son's preschool, we all contributed to a Bachman's gift certifcate. I also had my son make a card which the teacher loved! For my daughter's sibling care teacher I burned a few of our favorite CDs for the classroom.
