Hey moms! I am inquiring about the Primrose schools. I intend to start my son this summer when he turns 3. I want to do the 2 day a week, part-time, because I am really not ready for him to be away from me for long periods of time. But, I think he needs the education and socialization that the school can provide. I am just wanting feedback: positive and negative. Also, If anyone could tell me the tuition that would be great. I go next week to meet with them, but I just wanted a heads up so I wasn't shocked by the price. Thanks for all the info!

What can I do next?

I worked, very briefly, at one of the schools in Flower Mound and hated every moment I was there. I don't think I finished a week before I told them to find a replacement. It was so disorganized and the owner was a real jerk. Since they are individually owned, some of the others may be run better. Just my opinions.

Two or three days a week is a bad idea for first time school kids..It will be too dificult for him to get used to school. Full time is better. The first two or three weeks will be dificult but after that maybe only mondays will be hard to let him go. Believe me. It happenned to us. He used to cry every day for about 4 weeks specially on mondays...Also, the price part time and full time is almost the same. If you want, begin with half a day then 5 hours every day and later on the 8 or 9 hours a day.

Good Luck.

I can tell you about the Garland Primrose firewheel. Mydaughter goes there and has been for three years. Its a new facility and the techers and staff are great. I do understand they are individually owned so I can only speak for my school. My daughter rocks and its becuase of this school. The have the balance of eduation and nurture that meets my baby girls needs. The staff/owner is very in tune with my family needs and the other families needs also. I really cant talk highly about them enough. So I am for the Garland Primrose school and I dont want the other schools reputations tarnishing my daughters school. I do not want my daughter going anywhere else.

Hi A.,

Both of my children went to Primrose in Frisco for about 7 months. I had to have full time care while I was working long hours. If you have the option of going part time, I'd suggest a preschool or MDO that offers a part time schedule. My children went to Cross Bend Christian Academy. They both began to blossom with the love and attention they received. The Christ-centered approach of the teachers really made a big difference for my children.

all of the primrose schools are NOT equal. they are individually owned which means they each need to be evaluated as an individual school. My friend toured 2 different ones in the area and was very disappointed with the high turnover and the lack of professionalism of the staff. However, when she toured a third one in a different suburb, she found exactly what she was looking for and her almost 3 year old son LOVES it.

3 years old is definitely old enough for him to go full time. my son just turned 4 and he LOVES his preschool. the curriculum is all based on a week long immersion of a subject, so only going twice a week would really hurt his learning. The stuff he comes home talking about is amazing sometimes... I think Primrose has the same style of curriculum (from talking with my friend), so consider the benefits to your son... not just the detriments to you... JMO.

My 20 months old just started at ____@____.com is a brand new location since November last year. So far we like it. Ratio is pretty good and not crowded because it is so new. Everybody is very nice and she did not want to leave at the end of the day ! She has been going there 2 days a week, and tuition is $105 a week. She is going to start going 3 days starting next week, which is $155 per week.

It is on the pricey side if you are not working. But they do have a very nice curriculum with good varieties.

She had been going to MDO 2 or 3 days a week since she was 5 months (I worked part time then), and it really depends on each individual MDO program and make sure if you do have him go to a full day, check to see what kind of helpers do they have throughout the day. I was not impressed with one MDO program that their 1 year old afternoon extended care are mostly teenagers looking girls (may be 18 or 19). A bit too young to my taste and she was falling on the concrete outside everytime she is there !!! That's why I finally got her out and moved to Primrose. (Though their infant care teachers and helpers were excellent.)

I would look for something a little less daycare-ish personally. I know that the ones in Frisco are owned by the same person, and they are a daycare (although they claim to be such a prestigious "school") and very unorganized, out of ratio, teachers have a very high turn over and the kids are out of control! Unless you know someone on the inside, I wouldn't believe what they tell you when you tour. I thought just the opposite of what a previous poster said, though, I thought that there wasn't much learning going on.

I agree that your son needs social skills. I would also consider a MDO if you are not ready for him to be in a full time program. Or, maybe a half day program.

I would actually stick with an MDO type program. They are way more affordable than daycares, and more suited to your needs. The kids at primrose are with each other for 10 hours a day..I would worry that your little guy might not quite feel like he fits in there you know. Plus, you might enjoy meeting up with other moms who are doing just what you are hoping to do..stay at home as much as possible while still giving him some outside time. You could meet potential play mates etc. I am personally not a big advocate of the intesitiy of the primrose education...I mean, I worked there and it was a bit insane the things they expected the kids to do (at least in the 2 year old room). Kids need to learn more naturally than flash cards, and all kids, even those with a bit of a head start from thay type of teaching, catch up by the 1st and 2nd grade. Obviously, I am not an advocate of preschools, but it sounds like you might fit better with an MDO or "preschool" only than to go part time at a full time day care. I hope that makes sense...best of luck in your search adn with your new little one:) ~A.~

Both my 4 and 3 year old attended Primrose for over 2 years and loved it. They have a great program. Very organized and the turnover at our location was very low which was great. They are higher in tuition compared to other daycare programs so be prepared. Ours does not have a part time program so make sure you ask about that. You may want to try a MDO program instead if your looking for 2 days a week. My girlfriend takes her 2 boys to a great MDO program which is much more affordable than what Primrose may offer you.

I love, love, love Primrose. I am a SAHM now but had my daughter in Primrose from birth to 2 years old. They are wonderful!

You may want to double check and make sure they do 2 day a week programs. When we attended they only had 5 day a week daycare, they did not have a part time option. It was almost a year since we attended there so things may have changed.

My 3 month old is at Primrose School of Forest Creek (on Coit and Hedgcoxe in Plano) and I absolutely love it! The teachers are top notch and have been there for a long time. You can't beat their curriculum and the price is comparable to other preschools in the area... maybe a little more expensive but I believe you get what you pay for! My 3 year old niece also attended Primrose and she learned so much it was amazing! My oldest son also attended their summer camp and will go again this year for sure! Which Primrose are you meeting with next week? They are all great but I would definitely recommend Forest Creek above all! Hope you find what you are looking for!

I agree that all Primrose schools are a little different because they are individually owned. We really like the one in Denton and have been there a year now. We've seen the 3 yr old rooms, 4 yr old/pre-K rooms and after school care and all are great. The great thing about them is that they have double inspection -- they are held to the state requirements of course, but they also have Primrose standards to meet, which are higher than what the state requires.

Primrose will be a little pricey, and it depends on the location too. The locations closer to Dallas charge more than the northern burbs like Denton.

I agree that the mother's day out programs are great, but most of them are full this time of year.

My son goes to Primrose Griffen Park. He is 2 now and has been there since he was a baby. We love it, the staff is awesome and have taken great care of him. (The same teachers have been there since he was in the infant room) I have several friends with kids his age and they all comment on how advanced he is. Our school does not do a part-time program but the other ones may. Hope this helps, Good luck!
