I just found out my daughter/son-in-law have the chance for a private adoption. Does anyone out there know anything about this? The laws, cost, ect.? We are clueless and don't even know where to start. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

hey W.. whatever you do - do not try to do it with out an adoption lawyer!!! I tried that 4 yrs ago and it was a disaster! I did a private adoption 2yrs ago and my lawyer was great! you can e-mail for her name and number if you'd like. you also have to do a homestudy. that can be done thru the lawyers office or thru a private "homestudy" person, you can not adopt without one. the laws in florida have drastically changed about 2-3 years ago. and are much more favoable to the adoptive parents. the lawyer I used was the one that helped write the laws for the state of Florida. my e-mail is ____@____.com or call me at ###-###-####
good luck!!

Be careful. I've heard good and bad. Some say the costs kept rising way beyond what they were told.
We adopted internationally and were aware of all costs and had no surprises.
Private can go well or can fall through and there's nothing you can do about it and you can not get the money back that you've paid.
make sure you do a lot of research.

They will need an attorney that specializes in adoption. It would even be a good idea to talk with a couple of different attorneys to get a few view points since there are alot of things to consider and variables such as closed vs open adoption, fees, expenses for the mother, time the mother has to change her mind, etc. Good luck to them!
