Proactive for Adult Acne?

Hey Mamas ~

I'm soon to be 42 and have had an onset of what *I* determine to be adult acne (I've not been to a Dr. yet).

My last 2 cycles have left me with lots of pimples on my chin. They are itchy also ...
I researched online and decided to try stridex pads due to the sylsilic (sp?) acid content, but it dried my face out SO much. So then, I followed it up with some heavy cream at night and it helped - A LITTLE.

This is new territory for me, as I've always had very clear skin even in my teens (I was a swimmer). I've had a good night time face regimen that has always worked for me, until now.
I drink PLENTY of water daily and my diet is mostly healthy.

About 8 yrs ago, my OBGYN told me that I was starting perio-menopause (I was having skin discoloration issues whenever I went in the sun), so - in my opinion - it would make sense that now I'm entering PRE-menopause.

According to this book I'm reading, I have many symptoms :
1) acne during and around my cyle
2) boughts of intense energy followed by EXTREME sleepiness
3) overall agitation
4) cycles becoming "weird" (lasting longer, being more intense in discomfort)
5) low libio (which REALLY bothers me)
and more....

ANYWAY -
I keep seeing commercials for Pro-Active and am wondering if any Mamas have used it for this same reason?
I mean, I'm certain it's a hormonal thing - I just "know my body", ya know what I mean?

Does Pro-Active work in these types of situations or should I see my Dr. and get put on some creams/steroid meds, etc... to clear it up?
I don't have money to waste, so...

Thanks for your time :-)

What can I do next?

When I went through the "change" and still to this day (I will be 65 in May) there will be an occasional blemish and just a dab of oregano oil dries it up -in fact the same oil works for cold sores, canker sores, tooth aches, etc. When we lived in Europe 38 years ago a very dear friend in Greece gave me this tip! A small vile is about $8.00 at a health food store. Always check with your doctor - of course if the problem continues and if you use the oil in your mouth - get ready to cough - it is strong - so just a dab! Some of my friends will use clove oil too....(my dentist for one!)

Proactive is horrible for your skin. It is a nasty chemical cocktail that works in the beginning (sometimes) but ends up messing up your skin worse than it was. It's a hoax.

Go see a doctor to find out what's really going on with your skin. One visit and you should be able to get some answers and hopefully some products that will help.

I have used Proactiv and my face got hooked in it. When I stopped my acne came bagk worse then ever for about six months. Then I found Juice Beauty products you can find them in any healyh food and they are natural and work wonders to clear your skin up.

As others said, don't waste your money on the Proactive. Both of my kids wanted to try it a few years ago.

As someone else said, it bleaches out everything it touches. My son had navy blue wash cloths and towels and my daughter had purple/lavender. They are a mess.

Now that we've quit, they drive me insane with the calls and post cards wanting us to renew as customers. I've even been just short of a biatch the last time they called and told them that I have unopened boxes still, it's ruined my towels and I've asked REPEATEDLY to be taken off all their contact lists.

Go see your doc and make sure there isn't something else going on. I agree that the pre-menopause sounds probable, and she can help you with a better solution.

Go to a dermatologist if you can. I was having the same situation a couple of years ago and tried every over the counter thing I could try. I finally went to the derm and she said she sees as many woman around this age as she does teenagers because of our fluctuating hormones. Oh great...

I was also having it on the top of my back as well so she gave me a script for a body wash and face pads that have Clindamyacin in them (this is an antiobiotic) Worked great, now I only use the face pads when I'm having an outbreak here and there.

ProActive did not work for me. I have finally gone to see a derma...still working on it but I have major improvements!

ProActive was a HUGE waist of money.

If you want to use something that will bleach your sheets and dry out your skin then feel free to use Proactive. If you want to CARE for your skin, go a more natural route.
