Problems with Baby Taking Bottle

It will probally be best for him to feed baby bottle while you are not around. Im a nanny and the little one i was just caring for was Breastfed until i started watching her at 3 months,(her mom tried to give bottle but she would not take) it took 1-2 feeding of whining fussing, but she took a little then everytime i offered her bottle after that she would eat more, then at about 1 week of watching her she took the bottle no problem. We used the avent bottles, supposes to be next best thing to the breast.

He WILL take it, I promise. When you are not there, and he is hungry, he will take it. My kids both preffered breast, but when I was gone, I was gone. They did fine, and nursed very eagerly when I returned.

I know that my son wouldn't take it unless it was really warm almost hot, before that I had tried all sorts of different bottle types, now at 6 months he's picky and occasionally would rather have the bottle. Also my niece never actually took a bottle she was around 3 months and she liked sippy cups, they have some soft tip ones at walmart and target. hope this helps.

My son never took a bottle, and my daughter loves them. For her we use the VentAire brand that has the bend in the neck. We've tried a few different bottles, and those are the ones that she likes best.

Your son will not starve, when he's hungry enough he'll eat. This may sound cold, but all kids will eat when they're hungry enough. One thing I've heard is that a baby can smell their mother's milk from nearly 20 feet away, and if you're the one trying to give him a bottle, when he can smell you, do the math :)

My son never took a bottle, it was very hard. I sympathize. I would suggest trying all types of bottles and nipples untill you fing one he likes or at least tolerates. I would suggest that you not be the one to give him the bottle, make sure your husband is the one to do that. There is a bottle called Breastflow, it was the only one Carter would even try with, but all babies are different.

My son did the same thing to me when he was about 4 months old. I ended up using the playtex bottles with the plastic liners. The nipple I found with that one was just brown plastic and really wide. It seemed to work for him and he took right to it, of course after trying every other bottle known to man kind. Good luck

Some babies take a bottle no problem, and others refuse no matter how you do it. Get at least 4 different kinds of bottles, and leave for at least 2 feedings leaving you hubby alone with the baby. He may scream for a few hours (either one of them), but the baby WILL eventually take the bottle just fine. My son refused a bottle, but when I had to quit nursing cold-turkey, it only took 2 feedings for him to give in and get the hang of it.

Have you tried having your husband give the baby a bottle the instant the baby wakes up (even before the diaper change) - and without you being anywhere around? I have a friend who was in a similar situation and her husband found that he could get the baby to take a bottle under these conditions . . . and once the baby realized how much easier bottles were than nursing he really took to it!

Have you thought of just trying to give him your milk with a spoon or drinking from a small glass? It may not sooth him, but it would get him fed. My son (now 7 months)-- won't take a bottle either, but he will take it from a spoon or a small cup. In the hospital where I had my son they chose this method to not interfere with nursing "latch" or so to call it. Just an idea! Good luck!
