Hey everyone been a while since i've posted, but I have a question. My dr. rescently put me back on prozac and lamictal (which i was won about 2 years ago), I was taking cymbalta, well she started me about 2 weeks ago on the prozac and lamictal and I am wondering if any of you take these meds? If so, how long did it take for it to get into your system, I dont remember how long it took for it to get into my system the last time I was on it, I stated it like 5 years ago. But now it seems that i'm feeling nothing and the cymbalta is already mostly out of my system (I know this b/c I can really tell a difference in my moods) and i'm affraid that its going to be quite a while before these other meds hit me. Any ideas anyone. Thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

hi everyone, i just wanted to update the status of my prozac and lamictal...its now been 6 weeks, and not much of a difference has been achieved...but, i did find my old medical records from when i was on it before and i took that to my dr. she placed me on a 40mg dosage of prozac and 150 mg dosage of lamictal. what i was taking before, so i'm praying that it makes a difference and soon!! my emotions are seriously up and down and i dont even know what end is up hardly anymore. stress is kicking my butt!! so i guess i'll update again once I feel a difference. thank you all for your responses!!!

I work for a psychiatrist and he does med checks 2 weeks after a change, to see how things are progressing. My stepdad? is also a psych and he says try for 30 days, period. Your pharmacist may have more info on absorption rate, half-life etc. I know it is frustrating but just remember that everyone is different and the process of finding a combo of meds can be difficult.

If you would like to get off medications completely you can see a clinical nutritionist who would get at the root of your problem instead of just medicating it. There's an awesome doctor here in Wichita Falls. Dr. Donna Smith ###-###-#### or ____@____.com website is www.advancedclinicalnutrition.com. Clinical nutritionists can fix the problems, doctors just medicate them. Call her!

I was put on a similiar medicine & it took a full 10 days to take affect.

I took my daughter off milk & it took 14 days to get out of her system.

My sister was put on a med & it also took 10 days to 2 weeks.

Good luck! Hate those mood swings! If it is that time of the month, you may not be feeling the full affect due to the altering hormones. Give it another week.

i know nothing about the lamictal, but i know for a fact that with prozac, give it a good 3 to 4 weeks. 3 to 5 day for prozac is not at all realistic. if you're feeling better but not as good as you'd like, get your dr to increase your dose after 5 weeks or so. it may be that you don't do well with prozac. if cymbalta was doing well for you, why did you switch?

The meds are in your system but haven't reached therapeutic levels yet. For prozac it takes anywhere from 3-6 weeks to reach a therapeutic level. To be able to feel any effects you need to be at the therapeutic level, which I am sure you are not at yet. But, don't think they are not "working", they are in there, just hasn't been enough time yet. The information reports that prozac also helps with PMS and squashes your appetite. When I took prozac, it took me about 4 weeks to get a level, adn my PMS was better but I still had a good appetite. So good luck,
L.

It takes about 3 to 5 days. When prescribed Lamictal once, after about 4 days I broke out in a rash on my tongue...bad reaction to the Lamictal.

I'm sure it takes about 3 to 5 days. Maybe you don't respond as well to the Prozac and Lamictal as you did with the Cymbalta. I'd wait another week, and if you see no change and your mood is still out of sorts, call your doctor and let her know.

Hi S.-everyone is differant even the amount of food in you can make a differance. If you are more tired than usual can make a big differance---so you see it's hard to say for you and someone else may be totally different.Mg and your weight make it affect people differantly too.I could tell myself when I was on Prozac after 15 minutes! The Lamictal was a differant story---I could'nt tell if I was taking anything or not.I took Seroquel for about 15yrs and ended up in the Hospital with pancrititis{VERY PAINFUL} Good luck :) S. B

I've been there, it shouldn't take very long especially if you're just switching and not going from nothing to Prozac. The best thing for me is just to try to stay calm and stay busy or I will absolutely go nuts. I have bad anxiety. You're on the right track, it shouldn't be long now. Good luck, hope you feel better soon.
