M.-
This pain that you are feeling is called Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction, and is common during pregnancy. Unfortunately, most OBs (even midwives) believe that because it is common, there is little that can be done. I am a chiropractor specializing in pregnancy care, and I can tell you that this problem is very treatable. I find that my pregnant patients have near total to total relief in 2-3 treatments.
To find a chiropractor near you who specializes in pregnancy care, visit www.icpa4kids.org and click on Find a Doctor. I hope you find relief, not to mention all the additional benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy.
On a personal note, I am the proud mama of a 3 month old who was born at home with the assistance of a midwife and doula, so I applaud your advocacy of natural childbirth and attachment parenting. I am also the co-chair of the Kansas City doulas group, though motherhood and my chiropractic practice limit the number of births I can attend.
I hope you find the relief you want!
Yours in health-
Dr. Alyssa
