We are flying in a couple of weeks and will need to bring my 6 year old's booster seat with us. I know she can't use this on the airplane, so do I need to purchase some sort of bag to put it in when we check it as baggage?
ETA - it's one of those booster seats that have the removable back, so I think that if we didn't put it in a bag, it would break apart.
I have seen seats on the baggage claim belt in a clear plastic trash bag tied up (for protection I think from the cargo hold)
We flew Allegiant Airlines earlier this summer, and we decided not to check our son's car seat, but to take it on the plane, and I'm glad that we didn't because when we arrived at our destination and were waiting at the baggage claim, we saw several car seats go by that weren't in plastic bags as others said other airlines do.
Best advice, check with the airline to see what their procedures are, and if nothing else buy a car seat bag to put it in.
When I traveled a few months ago w/an infant I had to bring along her pack n' play. I flew Southwest and they had a large plastic bag to put it in when we checked in. I would call the airline and find out what it is they might have for you, but if infants can fly w/carseats why couldn't you use her booster? Ask them if it has to checked.

You don't need to buy a bag. I've checked booster seats many times with no bag, and have never had one damaged.

I have flown many times and checked in my kids car seat as baggage. They have a basic large plastic bag that they will put it in. If you have something you would like to put it in take it w/you and they usually allow it. They tag is like regular luggage.
They can give you a plastic bag at the check in desk if you want one. We have done that with both toddler car seats and booster seady.
We just flew and just but a luggage tag on it and it travels fine on its own. Some airline do have a bag at the counter so ask when you check in. Happy traveling!
Target has an Eddie Bauer travel bag for car seats that costs $20, if you think you'll use it enough, and /or don't like the idea of checking the seat uncovered it's a good buy.

We flew this summer and had the same question when we got to the airport. There was no problem at Tampa Int., they just put the carseat in an oversized clear bag and checked it in and gave us a ticket to pick it up like all the other baggage. Hope this helps. :)
