So What Happened?

Hello, and thank you for all the opinions and insight about Tucker Maxon School. We have done more research and visits, and it is an AMAZING little school; just as good as I heard it was! Thanks Liz D and Kate C for your first-hand endorsements. I would encourage anyone with a Pre-k through 5th grade child to consider Tucker Maxon. www.tmos.org Thanks again, E.

For hearing impaired, it's great. Not so good when additional disabilities such as Asperger's syndrome (high functioning Autism) are involved.

I don't know a lot about the school, but I have a friend who has been a teacher there for....hm, must be at least 7 years now. She loves it there and while I have never seen her teach, I have seen her interact with kids and she's great. I know that's not a very fact- or experience-based review, but it didn't look like there had been any responses. I could also find out from her if there's anyone you can contact if you have specific questions.

Hi E.,

I have worked with someone who has 4 boys. The older three go to Tucker Maxon and are amazing boys (that might be, in part, their parenting) and are very happy with the school. From what I gather it is very interactive with the parents. They boys read chapter books ferverously and are very intelligent young "gentlemen." I hope this helps.

Hi, Janet ~

My children (grades 3 and 1) go to Tucker Maxon. It is truly amazing! Both their father and I are educators, so we can be a little on the picky side, and we really love it. Class sizes are small (usually less than 10 kids) and overall staff to kid ratio is 1:5. Great PE programs, field trips, experiential learning...and probably the best first grade teacher I have EVER seen.

Feel free to email me with questions. L.

On paper it was great. And some of those things actually turned out good--fantastic PE teacher named Jerry; lots of fun, educational field trips. Our problem was with my son's main teacher (who is no longer teaching there). My husband was the primary parent then (dropping off at pre-school, picking up, going on field trips, etc) and the teacher was condescending towards men. At first I thought this was just a personality issue, but then I saw her talk down to another dad. I also think she really preferred quiet kids. It's all about the teacher, no matter where you are.

Hi E.,

I have two children (6 & 7) at Tucker Maxon, and I can't say enough about the school. We love it. They are both very happy there which is a BIG difference from their previous schools. The class sizes are quite small compared to most schools. One of my children is hearing impaired and the other is not. They have both grown leaps and bounds emotionally along with the superb education they are receiving. My only wish is that there were enough demand for the school to go farther than 5th grade.
They do have PE every day with Jerry (who as others have mentioned is FANTASTIC), there are two recesses per day as well, a wonderful gym with a rock wall, piano lessons are an option as is a program called afterschool sports (also with Jerry) that gives an additional hour of exercise per week. The staff is very caring and are dedicated to the kids. In the second grade at least, there is cooking class once a week and I have to say that my experience with ALL of the teachers there has been nothing but stellar.
