Question - Low Milk Supply

My milk supply has been really low so my lactation consultant recommended Fenugreek. I went to the store today and bought it (610mg 90 capsules). On the bottle it says "not intended for use by pregnant or nursing women".
I'm confused, should I talk to my lactation consultant?
Thanks ladies for any advice.

What can I do next?

I think fenugreek pills are intended for menopause and one of the side efects is increasing the breastmilk, that's why probably the note about it but is safe to take I believe ..personally I never use those but the tea " mothers milk" has fenugreek and another ingredient that I can't really remember right now.. Its works for me.

That is odd... but it is used for Nursing women!! If you get Blessed Thistle as well, they work together to give a better result, they seem to work together to make a stronger body reaction.

Don't forget to keep eating healthy foods, keep hydrated, and oatmeal!

What makes you think you have a low milk supply?

All dietary supplements/herbs are required by the FDA to put that on the label. They all have it. Fenugreek is totally safe while nursing. I took it for quite awhile.

If you want to increase your supply without taking herbs, double pump! Pump both boobs at the same time. My DD was int he hospital for the past month and I was not allowed to bf her, so my supply decreased dramatically so a nurse told me to double pump and it increased my supply within a day. I went from 1/2 oz out of each boob to 2-3oz out of each one.

I will second the Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle. I have used both. I took 3 capsules of each three times a day for about two weeks and it increased my supply. Some people will take it the whole time they are breastfeeding, but for me it worked quickly and I was able to discontinue using it. My OB and pediatrician both recommended Fenugreek. I think the warning is along the same lines as the one on INFANT Tylenol that says not to give until they are 4 yo. (You can thank our litigious society for those warnings :) )

You might also want to check out drjacknewman.com and kellymom.com for more information on increasing supply. Don't give up! I had problems with my first and was still able to breastfeed for 8 months.

My bottle said that too (CYA from the manufacturers). Talk to your lactation consultant but it sounds the same as what I used when nursing. I took 3 capsules 2 times a day until my supply came back up.

Take it, it works I used with with to increase and keep my supply up with my 3. I took 2 pills about 3 times a day and I nursed like crazy and with a week or so my supply was back up and I was able to pump extra. Pumping is good too because the more milk that comes out the more your body will make thinking the baby needs more. Hope this helps. Good luck and don't give up.

I never took Fenugreek myself, but lots of nursing women do. It's safe.

You know what worked for me? Eating something really fattening, like meat lovers' pizza with extra cheese, or a double cheeseburger. I'd go from a half ounce of watery milk, to 8 oz of heavy cream. No joke! (And no, I didn't gain any weight doing that, believe it or not. It seems like it all went to making milk!)

You should be fine. Did it work for you? I used fenugreek seed, but it never worked by itself. If it doesn't, I recommend trying Breastea from breastea.com. I have seen a tremendous increase in my milk supply since I started it.

It's good and not harmful after pregnancy. I'll suggest a natural tea blend "healthy nursing tea by secrets of tea". It was great for me.

Take it- its just a manufacturer CYA! The other one we used was Blessed Thistle. We found both be much less expensive on Amazon.
