As a first time expectant mom, I don't have a clue about the cost of daycare! After calling several places recently, I'm floored by the prices! Can anyone give me an average on daycare and in-home facilities so I know if I'm being rediculous? Thanks!

What can I do next?

D,

Childcare costs for a newborn in your area can range from about $170-$225 per week. One thing to keep in mind is that you really do get what you pay for when it comes to care for your baby. I would reccommend you look into Primrose Schools. We had a very pleasant experience with Primrose in Richardson and I know there are several locations in your area. Good luck to you!

In my experience with daycare in the area, the average price for an infant is $220 a week. As they get older and move to different classrooms and need less one on one attention, the price goes down.

My daughter is a few weeks shy of 3 and we started off paying $190 when she was 8 weeks old and when she moves up to the 3 year old classroom in another month or so, we'll be down to $155 a week.

Unfortunately, we just had to put our four month old in day care as well. For infants at a good, clean, trustworthy location, you are looking at $650-$700/month. That will go down by $50-$100/month when they become a toddler (the age of a "toddler" varies place to place...some are 12 months old, some are 18 months old). It is a big hunk of money! Good luck!

I pay $220 a week in Plano for an infant. I have searched high and low and I believe you get what you pay for. Try to think of the greatest investment is in your child.

I keep a 3 month old boy and my 7 month old son now in my home. I charge $350/month part time and $600/month full time. I have had many moms say those prices are very reasonable. I am wanting to watch one more infant if you would be interested.

I understand the frustration!! I am due July 19th and have been looking for daycares as well. The prices that I have been told are around $180/wk. What have you been told or found out? I live off Hebron and have found a couple that I'm happy with. Let me know what you have been told! Good luck!

I'm in Lewisville, too - I take my son to Children's Choice Learning Center right next to Medical Center of Lewisville - I pay $180 week (it's $190 for an infant). A year ago when I was searching, I found this to be slightly higher - most places were around 160-175. It's outrageous, I agree - I checked out home care in lewisville and found it to be around 100-150 depending on circumstance, but I had a hard time finding room. I pay a lot, but my daycare is really great - it used to be 24 hours, but now it's open from 6:30 to 7:30, and they can provide breakfast lunch and dinner. I don't know what you're looking for, but as far as daycares go, Children's Choice is great - in-home care is harder to find - there are a few local "chapters" of women who provide home care and you can call them up, tell them what and when you need care, and the "head" woman will tell you if any of their home care providers have room - I found this group in the phone book with a website listed, so you might try that route (I don't have the info with me, otherwise I'd give it to you). If I can answer anymore questions for you, let me know - good luck! - S.

You are going to be looking at around $200/week for the average daycare for a newborn. Another option you may want to look into is an Au Pair - it works out to about the same amount on a yearly basis.

What we did was think of our friends/family/aquantances that might be willing to babysit and ended up working out a great deal with a friend who stays at home (older children in school) so that our child was the only one she watched for $100/week.

I know it is definatly a shock when you are looking at daycare costs for the first time, but hopefully you will find something.
