Hello all! We just found out we are having a girl and are sooo excited!!! My boyfriend and I already have 4 boys between the 2 of us and I wanted this little girl so bad. My question is....have any of you out there had ultrasounds where they said you were having one sex, but it turned out it was the other?? What is the success rate with these ultrasounds? I know I'm being paranoid, but what exactly is the difference between telling a girl from a boy in the ultrasound (besides the obvious)? I have compared this ultrasound pics with the one from my son, and they do look a lot different. I just dont' want to get my hopes all up for this little girl and then have it be a boy!! Of course a healthy baby is all we can ask for.....

What can I do next?

My ultrasound tech showed me three lines on the screen and was positive it was a girl... he was wrong- I had a boy! They can't be 100% certain (even if they claim it is obvious) If you really want to be certain, do the 4-D, or plan for both. Since you already have boys, look through the baby clothes and get out a few things just in case, but also get some "going home" outfits for a girl (don't cut the tags). All that being said, they are usually correct, so congrats!

The only way you can tell 100% is an amnio centesis test - which you should NEVER do just for curiosity. They may ask you to get that test to check for birth defects - but otherwise you'll just have to wait! You are under 35 so they may not offer it unless there is family history of congenital illnesses etc.
The fancy ultrasounds they use for you first baby portrait may be able to tell you and you get a cool "1st photo" for the baby book.
Do up the nursery in white or medium wood furniture with soft yellow walls and all white linens - then add the gender specific stuff once the baby is born.
I've wanted a girl forever, too - but after 3 miscarriages in a year - this time I was overjoyed just to hear a heartbeat. I'm 12 weeks so I have to wait to find out - we do have a girl name picked out but that's as far as I'm letting my mind go. My son is such a sweetie - I'll take a brother with just as much happiness - just have no CLUE about a boy name. ;)

I wanted to know so bad, with both my girls. They do the ultrasounds so early in the pregnancy these days that it is hard to be convinced- especially when you are a 'planner' like me, or want to shop for baby clothes!! The tech told me on the ultrasound of my 2nd baby she was "A little more than 50%" sure it was a girl. Seriously? So we waited as long as was recommended to do the 3D, and even then after like an hour of coaxing her to move around, we left there only 'mostly' sure she was a girl! *sigh* Frustrating when you just want to know for sure! =)
My advice- if they are sure, have fun and buy girly stuff-just leave the tags on until she's born!! Good luck and congrats either way!

It really depends on your ultrasound. I had a friend who was told 98% it's a girl -- well, it was a boy.

When I had my ultrasounds 15 and 11 years ago, they were Level II ultrasounds which meant we actually saw the sex organs of my daughter rather than just not seeing "boy parts" (not sure how much they sensor postings). Did you see "girl parts" or just not see "boy parts"? I didn't believe it, so my husband loaded the recording onto the computer and went frame by frame to show me without a doubt that it was a girl. Did you get a digital recording on CD or video on tape that you break down image by image to view more closely?

I have a boy and a girl and both ultrasounds were correct. I had 2 mid to late ultrasounds with my daughter and both the ultrasound tech and my OB pointed out the 3 white stripes that showed it was a girl.
Congratulations and best of luck!

My cousin also had an ultra sound saying she was having a girl and ended up with a boy. When I had my ultra sound with my daughter I swore it was a boy, even though they said they were "pretty sure" it was a girl. Her girly parts looked a little swollen and looked like a couple of sacks to me. I ended up paying more money and getting the 3D ultrasound just to make sure.
Best of luck and Congratulations!!!

There was a lady in my maternity yoga class who was told she was having a girl - so she decorated the nursery all in pink and bought a wardrobe of little dresses... and it turned out to be a boy!! She was surprised to say the least.

My advice is to try and have a 3D ultrasound. There's no mistaking the sex of the baby on one of those! I did that with my second child and there was nooooo question that she was a girl!

Congrats on your new (hopefully girl) baby! =)

I have a 4 month old baby girl. When I was showing my ultrasound that showed her sex around work (I worked in healthcare) someone told me that they were taught in school to look for three lines to show a girl, not just the absence of boy parts. On my pic it kinda looked like a fork. I hope that's somewhat helpful.
