I have read a few months ago about a quitting smoking pill that cost about 120.00 a month that was available by prescription. I was trying to find out what this medicine was called. Can anyone help me with this question?
Chantax or Chantix - my doctor wrote me a prescription for it and said must be taken for 3 months straight, average cost is $90 month and if you follow directions there is an 85% success rate for quitting and staying quit. Good luck - I have not yet forked out the money for it but am planning to and know people who have used it successfully.

I used Wellbutrin (sp?)and it worked great. I smoked for 20 years and am in my 40s. It was hard, but once I was done, I was done. That was nearly 4 years ago and I haven't picked up a cigarette since, and I haven't even wanted a cigarette. Good Luck!

There are a few out there. I know that a new one is called Chantix (or Shantix). Then there is Zyban and Wellbutrin. You can call a pharmacy and check on pricing or check with your insurance provider.

The name of this pill is called Chantix. Most insurances don't cover it but I have heard it works well. Although I also recently read in People magazine an article about some mental side effects and hollucinations. I haven't tried it myself but if you are trying to quit I used the nicotine lozenges. They worked great for me! Good luck to you!

I used Zyban. It was about the same price. It worked for me, but always remember everyone is differant. Most people I know quit cold turkey or with gum/patch. It's worth a try. Always remember you have to really WANT to quit or it won't work. My mom still gets a craving every once in a while and she quit smoking 30 years ago. Try it all, just do what you can to quit. Good luck

It is called Chantix. It works VERY well you really do not want to smoke. But you have to be ready to quit in your mind so when get to the mental part of not smoking. I used it and it works great, I use to smoke for about 20 years and had tried several different times to quit but did not do it. With this I was able to.
Good Luck,
J.

Hi M., I don't know anything about that drug, but, I use Wellbutrin. As soon as my doctor gave it to me ,it worked!I had smoked most of my life and at 47 quit! It has not bothered me at all. I don't miss it either. A friend of mine told me it worked for her that fast too. I think you have to be ready to do it or You'll quit after the next one forever! I use the generic brand and it it really inexpensive.

Chantix is the name. I believe its got to be in your mind for the desire to quit also. I had a friend that tried it and failed at it, but at the same time, he wasn't helping the situation with the desire to quit. Good luck and stick to it once you try. October 31st 2007 (my mom's first day of chemo from lung cancer--caused from smoking was Oct 31 2006) will be my 1 year anniversary from not smoking. I feel great, and don't get me wrong, the desires are there still, definetly not as strong, but its mind over matter. You can do it and Congrats on your thoughts and decisions to quit!!!

I have taken the med. Chantix (sp?) in Aug. of this year. You get it only by RX. If u get the RX. @ Wal-Mart it is like 100.00 a month. (ask your doctor for a coupon, some times they have them.) the first week you take a low does of the med. and work your way up. You can smoke that fist week, but when you start week two ( or day 8) you need not smoking any (if at all possible.) I was able to do that and was smoke free for 2 weeks, (I was only on it for 3 weeks total), but that was because the side effects were killing me. Nashua, constipation, and a terrible metallic taste in my mouth all the time. So I just stopped taking it thinking I can't live this way, I would rather just smoke.
Well fast forward to the 15th of this month. I had to go see my doctor, (for something else) and he asked how the Chantix did, so I told him and he was like oh i should have told you that the side effect can take a full month to calm down, you should of kept on it. So i was like you've got to be kidding me, so now when I am ready I am going to do it again.
Because it did work. You will need to try and stay away from other smokers for a while, that always bothered me and made the nausea worse.
If you have any questions, you can send me a message. I'd be glad to give u any info. i have, and they have a website of their own also.

I think its a twelve week step process and everyone says you need to eat before or while you take it! Good luck! I need to quit as well, so you will be in my prayers.

Hi M.,
My doctor told me about Chantix, it is supposed to be very effective to help you quit smoking. It is evidently realitively new, but has shown great and promising results. I never checked to see how much it was, because our insurance doesn't cover any quit smoking plans and the doctor said it was kind of expensive. I was also still nursing my son at the time; but now I am going to look into it. I will pray for your sucess; I believe quitting smoking for anyone, including myself, would be a huge accomplisment; one to really be proud of.

Chantix (I am not sure about the spelling). There are great results. It costs no more than smoking and everyone I have talked to says that it takes the desire to smoke away. These are people who enjoy smoking and really did not want to quit but did for various reasons! Blessings to you for your desire to stop.

Hi M.
I am a pharmacist tech.. The patch called chantix is a wonderful way to go about in quitting smoking... It is rather expensive though.. but it is well worth the spent of the dollar amount of cost..sometimes at the doctors office you can ask for samples if they have any and or the dr might have a rebate purchase card.. like the rx drug co-pay of a 7 day free trial on the first step.. Hey its worth a shot.. Good luck to you..

That medicine may cost you $120, but you would be paying about the same in patches. I know Nicorette patches say to use Step 1 for 12 weeks, and then Step 2 and 3 for 2 weeks each. That's 4 months of patches, which would be about $400. The Chantix Web site recommends taking the medicine for 12 weeks (3 months). At $120/month, that would cost you $360. With either method you could go past 3 or 4 months using the product.
Good luck! My husband is in the process of quitting. He is using the patches, but I may tell him to just get Chantix instead to see if it works better.

Chantix. That is what the doctor prescribed me to quit smoking and I could defintely recommend it. I haven't had a cigarette or the urge to smoke in 6 months. I took the medicine for about 2 weeks. My husband took it for a month and he has also been smoke free for 6 months. The length of time to take the medicine is different for everyone. But I can say I can breath much better now. My insurance covered the cost. But even if you have to pay full price (which is about $120) the money you will save on the cigarettes you don't buy anymore is well worth it. I know about 8 people that have tried this medicine since I have. None of them smoke. Some still have the urge but again it is different for everyone. The best thing about not smoking...your food tastes better, your senses work better. The smells in the air are amazing and you will learn quickly by being around people who smoke YOU will smell much better. I get around people at work who still smoke and think wow I can't believe I used to smell like that. Good luck and I hope you have as much sucess as we have.

I called 800-QUIT NOW and they had a promotion going on that gave a free months worth of gum... Even if they're not still running the promotion you should give them a call.... they also offer free counseling and advice to help you quit... they really helped me...all the best and much luck... you can do it!! Feel free to message me if you need any support.

there should be a smoking cessation program in your area that will offer the medication at no charge to you. Harrison, arkansas has a program like this. You may call your local college and ask for a referral to the program. they usually have more information.
