Random Stinging Side and Back Pain - 28 Weeks Pregnant

I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant and have a weird stinging pain on the front and back on the right. If I rub on it it stings, or if clothes rub on it or whatever. It's on the right side of my stomach and the right side of my back, sort of in the middle. I called the doctor yesterday and the advice was tylenol and heat. (Though I'm too nervous to put heat on my stomach.) It hasn't really helped. Has anyone ever had anything like this before? It just seems so weird. It started on the front on Wednesday afternoon but it was on the back by Wednesday night and I called the doctor Friday morning.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Went in to labor and delivery at the hospital at my doctor's suggestion and it turned out to be a kidney infection. Thanks for all the suggestions, ladies!

ETA: So, they were wrong about the kidney infection. It's actually shingles. Grrrrrrrr

I thought about sciatica as well, although usually it is more in the back on the side and not the front - the pain can shoot down one leg. It's very common in pregnancy and not harmful assuming your leg doesn't give out and make you trip. I had it for years and it was worse during pregnancy - I've not gotten rid of it since I've strengthened some muscles as well as my immune system.

However, yours sounds like it's more superficial, right? More on the skin and not so much deeper inside, where the sciatic nerve is. I'd consider shingles as well. Shingles follows a nerve and it tends to be in a line that way - so that might explain why something seems to be moving in one region of the body.

I agree that immune system support is important, but I'd be very very careful about just buying one vitamin or vitamin complex. That's not how immune systems benefit - our bodies need more comprehensive support. There is something you can do that is not only safe during pregnancy, it's safe for kids as well. But it's not an overnight fix.

I'm not sure it's a problem to put heat on your stomach - it would take a long time to raise the heat in the uterus and you're just talking about your skin. They probably told you 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, right? That should be fine. I'm not sure if it will do any good, but I can't imagine it would harm the baby. It's not like immersing yourself in a super hot tub for an hour!

If you develop a rash in that area it could be shingles then you need to be seen by a doctor immediately. Good luck!!

Hi SB,

My thoughts went to shingles as well. You can only contract shingles if your immune system is shot and if that's the case, your baby isn't getting the nutrition he needs. That also means you're not absorbing the nutrition in your prenatal. First you need to get a proper diagnosis. If it is shingles, you need a superior multivitamin. L-lysine will help as well. Also, DON'T put heat on it. It will cause it to multiply and quickly. If you do have shingles feel free to get back to me. I can walk you through how to get rid of it safely, naturally and quickly.

God bless,
M.

sounds like it could be Sciatica.. I had that a lot when I was pregnant..
it's very common in pregnancy...
check out outline and see if your symptoms entail as such..
as for what to do... well since you can't take much, Tylenol may be your best bet.. I don't even like that.. you could also go online and see if different yoga poses help, like say Badakasana.. which can help to give more room to the hip and stomach area .. check the pose out online..
