I am currently expecting my second child. I have many bottle nipples of slow and medium flow speeds plus a few pacifiers that I used with my first child (who is now 16 months). All items appear to be in great condition. Is it necessary to purchase all new nipples/pacifiers for my next baby? Or, can I boil my current items and re-use with the new baby?
Note: each of the items were used for about 16 weeks (daughter was off the pacifier at 16 weeks, moved to med flow nipple at 16 weeks and then was off bottles at 9 months).
Thanks! Obviously it is not a huge investment to get new things but figured I would re-use if it is appropriate.
Just sterilize them. I reused everything of my son's for my daughter, as long as it wasn't discolored, stained, or broken. Go for it.

You re-used them with your daughter by sterilizing them, right? I don't see how this would be any different. Trust me when I say they're going to be having plenty of the same things in their mouths at one point or another anyway being less than 2 years apart, and I don't think this is a big deal at all.
you can re-use them. Just boil them and make sure there isn't any damage to them. I re-used alot of my bottles (my son wouldn't take the paci) for my daughter and just boiled them and I was good to go. why waste money when u don't have to.

As I understand it rubber looses it's integrity over time and exposure to the air. They can collapse at any given moment and they can come apart int heir little mouths. If they are silicone you might just google silicone nipples or call the manufacturer and ask.
Since they are one of the most inexpensive of all baby items I say buy some new ones.
you're supposed to replace pacifiers for hygiene reasons every 3 months or so (not sure about the nipples but i assume the same rule applies) so i would just buy new ones.
I am reusing all the nipples, bottles and everything that I used with my daughter (except for the clothes because this time I'm having a boy so I'll reuse only the white, yellow and green onesies). She is also 16 months. I see no problem with re-using all that you can, they are practically new and used only by her sister so I think it's fine.
I would not reuse them myself. Not because of cleanliness issues, but because most nipples suggest replacing them every 3-4 months because the holes get bigger, they get stretched out, etc and don't work as well. Even if they look ok, you can't see some of that or tell the difference with your eyes. So the fact that you used them that long plus it is another child and the time that has passed, I would get new ones. But then I used Playtex rubber (latex) nipples and pacis mostly, it may be different for Sillicone (clear) ones but I don't think so. You could check on the bottle manufacturer's website and see if it says anything about that....
I reused many pacis & bottles from my second child to my third child but since she was ebf & wanted nothing to do with the paci I ditched all of them after a few months she was using a straw cup for water & juices at 5 months.I sterlized all of them with a Medla microwave bag filled what I needed to sterilize added water then put in microwave for 2-3 min.
The only thing to look for is cracks wear & tear any holes from first baby toos them out & making sure they are all BPA free if they aren't then your leaking the plastic chemicals into the air & it will leachs into her bottles.
I re-used bottles/nipples for both my 2nd & 3rd (from my 1st!). Should be just fine!

I would reuse them (assuming they are BPA-free) and just boil them before the first use with the baby.
I reused all of my things from my first child with my second. I don't see any reason why you have to purchase new. Just make sure they are clean and not damaged in any way, which you've already done.

I would reuse the nipples, somehow reusing the pacifer sounds gross, I can't explain why though. However, both are fairly inexpensive, I would be tempted to buy some new ones to go with what you have.
