Okay so I'm thinking about getting my twin girls who are 6 1/2 right now a hand-held gaming system. To be quite honest I don't know the first thing about these things. All I know is that there is a PSP, DS or DSI lite?? What is best for a 6 soon to be 7 year old? Cost is a factor because I will have to purchase two at a time. Which one offers the BEST games appropriate for 6-7 year olds? They love baby's, cats, mermaids, disney princess, etc. your basic girlie girl stuff. I appreciate any in put!

We got my daughter a DS for her b-day last year when she turned 8. She loves it and there are a lot of games that are either for their age or for anyone. At first my hubby wanted to go with the PSP because she could watch movies when we travel but there are NO games that I would let her play at all for it! I don't know what the all the DSI is is the same thing as a DS but has a camera in it. Just do some homework on the I by reading reviews on like Amazon, target, etc to see if it is worth the extra dough.

I would say the DS. My kids have the DS and PSP. The DS is more for her age group. The games are also better for a 6.5 year old. Without a doubt go with the DS/DSI

I bought my triplets the Leapster. They've used them since they were about 4 and still love them (6 1/2 now). Everyone has their own gaming device, but they share all the games. Makes travel a breeze!

We have Leapsters. I chose them for the learning aspect. They have another version that I am considering for my 6yr old, the didj. They both love them and can share games. The games are fun and age appropriate. I have 6 and 4 yr old boys. Don't get into the cost, violence, and "have to have" of the other handhelds. Leapster is the way to go.

We have a leappad but both my kids don't really play it. My 11 year old had a ds lite but wants to trade it in for a dsi. The difference is the ds plays ds games and gameboy advance games which you can find cheap. The dsi does that lid takes pictures and more. My 4 year old wanted one so I went on craigslist and found him the first ds that came out and it was cheaper than buying the ds. We had a psp but the kids prefered the ds because it was easier to play and better game selections. You will get mixed reviews about the educational values but it's about all the same to me. These systems teach hand and eye coordination and most you have to consentrate onto play the game well. Your best bet is to do research on them. But my 4 year old mastered the ds and ds lite but had a little trouble with the psp. Don't be afraid to check out places other than retail stores. Some locals sell them because their kids don't play them anymore so you can pick them up cheap. Good luck

My 4 year old and my 7 year old both have Leapsters, mmost games for it are for prek to 1st or k - 2nd and a few may be for a little older. I think the age range on it is 3-8. There is one for older called Didj.

My kids are 10 and 7. They have has their DS for about 3 years and they still play it all the time. My son did break his once and we replaced it but my daughter still has her original one. They also got a psp last Christmas but don't play it as much. I don't know enough about the new dsi but I whole heartedly recommend a ds! Good luck!
