My husband took my son who just turned four to get his check up for the year. When they were there my son received 4 Vaccination Shots like the second MMR and so fourth. My husband said that the nurse was absoutly horrible in the way that she admistered the shots but they only told him to give him tylenol and limit the physical exercise for the day.

We took the bandaid off his arm where two of the shots were given this morning and there is a red lump, feels like a knot in his arm. it has gotten bigger over the day and it has a bruise around it.

I am starting to get concerned because I have never seen this before...
What could it possibly be because of?...

What can I do next?

Did he get a DTaP shot? The tetanus portion of that shot does leave a nasty lump that gets really sore. You can give him Tylenol, as they suggested, and also massage the lump. I had this shot myself recently and my arm was sore for a few days, and then my daughter got her Kindergarten shots and the same thing happened to her. But hey, it's a heck of a lot better than getting tetanus, right? ;)

My son gets that when the nurse is too rough with giving him his shots. My son has a bleeding disorder though so that is expected. Watch the site and if it gets worse, call the doc. You can put an ice pad onit also to lower the swelling.

This is a very common reaction to the vaccine, and it doesn't mean anything bad, other than the big red lump and knot in his arm, so don't get panicked, if you can. If you're really concerned, do call the doctor and have them either talk to you now or see your son in the AM.

Most importantly, how's your son doing? If he seems unbothered or is only complaining of mild pain, I'd just let him sleep on it and check it out in the morning. The lump will probably still be there, and might linger for a while (this happened to my son in one of his baby shots in his leg - something about where the injection hits).

Sorry this happened.

If he got the DTaP shot that can leave a lump. You can put ice on it if he is uncomfortable and give Tylenol.
