Really Gross Cradle Cap

My little guy is just over 1 month old now. He has cradle cap on his scalp and also on his forehead and in his eyebrows. My dd had it pretty bad at this age too but only on her scalp so I softened it with olive oil and scrubbed it with baby shampoo. Im afraid to do that with him bc its so close to his eyes, any ideas what to do to get rid of it?

What can I do next?

This is how I did it and it worked like MAGIC. 1.generously applied baby oil to all affected areas (you could try applying less and with a q tip on his eyebrows)and let it soak for 15 mins while i gave her a bottle. 2. i combed against her hair pattern with the smallest tooth comb i had until i got it all off 3. i shampooed her hair and let the baby shampoo sit on her head while i washed her body. I was amazed at how well it worked.

The Olive Oil won't hurt him, just be extra careful to not use more than a drop on the eyebrows, let it soak for at least an hour before you gently shampoo his little head.Use a fine tooth comb before to gently loosen the CC & after shampooing/conditioning.

I ALWAYZ used a conditioner on my kidz heads, use one especially formulated for kidz & use it EVERYtime you shampoo, this should keep the CC from reoccurring.

We used baby oil and then rubbed really gently with a soft baby brush to remove the flakes. I agree with others the shampoo may be making it worse.

It is the shampoo you are using. My DS had the same problem and it just never cleared up. Finally, the place I got his hair cut recommended switching away from Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo to a high quality no-tear shampoo. It cleared up within 2 weeks of using it. If I could remember the name I would tell you but it was 7 years ago. Just go to a kid's hair salon and they will help you.

I used Head & Shoulders on my kids when they got it. Make sure every time you bathe him that you are fully rinsing the soap off his body. My little guy is TWO and still gets cradle cap simply because he hates his head getting wet and I cannot always rinse him clean.

What worked for me (after trying different oils, shampoos, etc)
BEFORE you wash his hair take a soft baby brush and brush the area in every direction, and circular motions, the wash and brush his hair as usual, no oils, no special shampoos. His was a bad for years and this cured it.

what about using a natural baby oil? apply it with a q-tip so that you can control where is goes.

My grandson also had it badly, head, eydbrows and forehead. I read on the internet take babyoil or vaseline be careful with eyes. Take a very soft toothbrush or baby hairbrush and move in a circular motion. Took his away in two tries. Give it a try. Good luck.

I had the best luck with Mustela foaming cradle cap shampoo. It's very gentle, smells divine, and cleared up some really ugly cradle cap with just a couple of shampoos.
