My 3 year old son has pretty severe food allergies and a few moderate environmental allergies. We feel it is time to see a specialist as he as just recently developed asthma. He has been on daily treatments of Pulmicort and rescue treatments with Albuterol. The rescue treatments work but the side effect is that he is very agitated and very difficult when he wakes in the middle of the night. Hard to tell whether its the treatment or the actual asthma symptoms causing the agitation. I would like to start with an allergist but the new asthma symptoms make me wonder if a visit to a pulomologist is in order as well. Does anyone have someone they would recommend? We are in Bartlett but are willing to travel a bit..St. Charles, Schamburg, etc.

What can I do next?

Okay, I know this is going to sound crazy, BUT there is a treatment out there called NAET. It is a natural method to ELIMINATING allergies. not just treating them, but actually eliminating them. It sounds so far fetched but I have a 14 month old who has a severe allergy to milk and a moderate allergy to peanuts and we have an appointment with a NAET specialist in Feb. If you want to read more about it, there are books on it but if you want to start, there are a couple of websites to check out. http://www.allergyescape.com/allergy-relief.html
this was where I heard about it. I checked snopes and they have nothing on it. I have done research on trying to find whether or not this is a hoax and could find NOTHING to say it didn't work. EVERRYTHING says it is successful. the offical website is www.naet.com
This website has a finder for a doc near you. I am going to the one in McHenry- but I live in Huntley.
it sounds crazy but I am praying that it will work for my family as well as yours. good luck!

We see Dr. Youngren Chung (from Children's Memorial) at the Central Dupage Hospital location for pulmonology. My son's asthma was truly out of control before we saw her and she has been good about adapting to fit his needs. She embraces both natural/environmental changes as well as asthma medications. 1st appt scheduling goes through 1-800-kids-doc. My son had a similar difficulty (is now 5) and it has gotten much easier and controlled since we started more maintenance treatment. She also referred us to several specialists to better account for his allergies/food intolerances. Good luck!

We use DuPage Medical Group which has a wonderful Allergist Nurse. They have locations in Bartlett, Stratford (next to mall), Wheaton, Glen Ellyn (open late nights) and Naperville. I've been with them for all of us since 2000! They're wonderful and have great hours.

We also use Allergy and Asthma Medical Association in St. Charles. We see Dr. Meier usually. They came highly recommended to me and have been very good. I also believe they have an office further west which might be closer to you I'm not sure. I think it's in Carol Stream. If you call the St. Charles number, I'm sure they can let you know. It's 630/513-1691. I spoke with Dr. Gutt once over the phone and hear great things about Dr. Abraham at that office too. Good luck. (My daughter has fairly severe nut allergies.)

Hi B., I have a child with horrible allergies and asthma as well, Mine is more environmental. One of my neighbors told me that these types of allergies are mostly home induced. It turn out that the chemicals we use on a daily basis in our homes promote allergies, asthma as well as other problems like ADHD, Eczema and Psoriasis in our children!! I had no idea, but when I went to the National Pediatrics Association website, I found out that Allergies and Asthma is the leading childhood problems now, and that in the last 15 years they have gone up 400%!! I was shocked! My neighbor Tina told me about a green store and I converted my home to their chemical free products, as a result, my son is doing so much better!! He dosent even use the inhailer at home anymore! Id love to share it with you, e-mail me at ____@____.com care, L. :)

Hi B.,

My daughters (ages 4 and 14 months) see a pediatric allergist (who also sees adults) in Carol Stream. He is absolutely wonderful with the kids and is a very thorough and experienced physician. My husband and I are both dentists and we have known him for a while and highly recommend him. His name is Dr. Richard Meyer ###-###-####. He also has an office in St. Charles. Good luck!
