I have a newborn who likes to be held alot and an active toddler I need to keep a hand on; I'm looking for a sling or wrap that will be snug and secure but not too complicated. I already have two in the closet that don't work for me, the over the shoulder baby holder (pocketed sling with double ring adjustment) and the bjorn (not appropriate for newborn). What do you love/reccomend? I am a petite 5'3" so I have heard some products may be a challenge.
I love my Ergo baby. I am 4'10" and so this works best for me and doesn't put any strain on my shoulders or back at all. Since you still have a newborn, you'll probably have to get the attachment for it. I realize you don't want anything too complicated and don't get discouraged once you look at it because it's real easy. Check it out.
My newborn and I both loved the mei tai; mine was a Babyhawk. The only drawback is we both get hot when the weather is warm.
Congratulations! I'm 5'2. I used the Ultimate Baby Wrap for the first 6 months, then the ergo. There are lots of different wraps. I got mine from Babies R Us. It was great. I flew with it, changed plans and everything, no problem. My son did get hot sometimes, but as long as I wore a shirt that came up to my neck he was fine. It was the skin to skin that brought out the body heat. That also helped calm him too.
My favorite wraps/slings (after trying 5 different ones) are the Kangaroo Korner (stretchy material) and the Ergo. I still use both with my 17 month old.
I'm 5'4" and small and used the Moby from the very beginning. It is a bit of a learning curve as its essentially a long piece of fabric, but you can use it for a long time and use several different positions. When my daughter was very small I also used the Kangaroo Karrier. They come in fleece and cotton and you can just drop the baby in. Its the simplest for just doing things around the house. Its also great if your baby prefers to be upright all the time like mine did.
