Honestly I have had some really bad experiences with moving companies so I can't recommend any. Is it possible to just rent a uhaul and move your own stuff? We always have less stress when we do it ourselves. It will also save you some money.
we are moving by this month end.
am reading reviews on net ,it scares me.
my husbands company will bear the moving charges but there is a limit they can give 1200$ for furniture + 1000 $ for car.
we have t o move from virginia to california.
i can keep 200-300$ from my pocket so 1500$ for furniture.are there any movers that i can get in this budget.i have 1 bedroom furniture and 12 large boxes.
please suggest some good movers
thank you all very much for your response.
yeah i have put my furniture on sale, but no one is buying them and i will be leaving this country in 2 years so if i sell the furniture i have to loose some money here by lowering the furniture cost.and also when i get there need to buy again...which i have to sell in another 2 years.
i know it is a headache with these movers but can i bargain them and pay them only 1500$ because thats my budget .
thanks
appreciate all your replies.

I moved from NY to WA in 2003 and used Mayflower movers - I don't think they are the cheapest, but they were reasnable and did a good job for me - not a single problem and all my stuff arrived on time and intact. They seem to have a good reputation - currently, they have been running ads on the radio, and one of the local radio personalities in my area recommends them & says he personally used them, too - also had a great experience. Good luck!
We used National when we moved from VA to TX. We ended up doing a 2-part move with our house in VA remaining on the market, so my husband u-hauled some necessities- clothes, toys and items that we didn't want movers to damage like pictures, our spare bed and the kids' beds. I went back to VA about 6mos later and used movers to move our remaining furniture. We got everything more or less as it was packed and the estimate was pretty close to what we were charged.
I would take care to mention electronics like big-screen tvs, pianos, or anything particularly valuable so that they can "crate" it. When we moved from FL to VA two years prior to that, within a week of delivery, our big screen tv broke but since the moving company (Mayflower) had delivered it in working order, they wouldn't cover the damage. Needless to say, I didn't use the same mover again.
I really think that you just have to be realistic in what your expectations are for delivery. Be sure to take pictures of your items (or atleast the big ticket items) before and after to document any damage. Corporate moves actually pay relatively quickly on damage files claimed versus individual moves. I guess because they don't want to lose the corporations' business. Things are going to get mildly scratched or broken (even if the movers pack it!) so just do it knowing that your stuff is NOT going to ALL arrive pristine and you should be alright. Its never usually as bad as you'd think!
Good luck on your move!
Another alternative is to ship the boxes to California via FedEx or UPS or even United States Postal Service and just buy a new bed and mattress when you get there.
I've moved several times and the only time I have had a good experience is when I moved myself. Maybe it is different when the arrangements are done by a man and there is heavy male presence. Several of my pieces were damaged intentionally by the movers, I gues they just thought a single parent shouldn't have nice and expensive brand named furniture. Just my aweful experience on two of my four moves.
