Recovering from D&c

On Dec. 30th I went for my 12-week ultrasound and they discovered that the baby had stopped developing at 8w5d and had no heartbeat. I was scheduled for a d&c on Mon., January 4. The procedure went well and I've been feeling fine, just a little tired. My bleeding stopped on Sunday. Today, all of a sudden, I am bleeding again and passing small (nickel- and quarter-sized) clots. I am concerned, but based on what I can see online it looks like this may be a "normal" part of the recovery. I am scheduled to see my doctor next Wednesday. Should I just wait until then? Or should I call and see if he can see me sooner? Thanks in advance for your help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I called and spoke to a nurse who said that I shouldn't be concerned about bleeding unless it was bright red, soaking a pad in an hour, or lots of large clots. Otherwise it was probably just that I overdid it that day or the day before (and that is probably true as I stay home with my two little ones and still have a house to run!). So I am taking it easy and waiting to see the doctor until next week. Thanks everyone for your advice.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I had a D&C too a couple of years ago. I don't remember bleeding starting up again. Leave your appt for Wednesday but I would call into the doctor's office and talk to the doctor or nurse to make sure it's normal.

J., don't wait. At least call the doctor and ask if this is normal or not. I think it's too soon for your period to resume. Please call the doctor and let him/her know this is happening.

Peace,
Syl

If just to bring you some peace of mind, call the dr's office and ask to talk with him. He is your best source of information. Good luck and God bless.

Dear J.,
I am sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage a year ago. I bled for only a couple days after the D&E, then bled again in a day or two which was actually my period. It could be your period, but if you are unsure, call your doctor and ask if you should be concerned.

Love and healing light to you J..
Your body is doing what it needs to do to heal. Listen to your intuition carefully. Probably alot of rest is in order.Lie down ,be still .
I had a leep procedure and a very similar experience ,I ended up in ER twice out of fear and uncertainty and they had me lay down until ( what to me was extreme blood loss, pouring out like a faucet ( 8 pads at least soaked through a day )and huge clots for almost ten days and to them this was considered moderate )it did stop when I stopped !
Take this time to be quiet.
make an earlier appt if you are able and this will ease your mind .

I am sure that your best piece of mind will come from calling the doctor and confirming that it is normal. I am sure they would be happy to reassure you without making you come in. If I remember correctly for my own experience, you do not need to be concerned unless your clots are MUCH larger. Good Luck.

Just call your doc and ask if they need to see you sooner or if this is normal. They can advise you whether or not you need to come in earlier or if you should be concerned. They answer these questions all the time. They know you and your case and can give you the best information.

My condolences on your loss.
