My 21 month old had 8 - 10 of the same on her legs, tummy and back and they went away after about a week. I doubt it was the dessert. However I am going to take my daughter in if she gets any more and let the doctors tell me what it is.
My 7 month old daughter has about 15 red pimple like bumps on her stomach and vaginal area...Could it be strawberry and banana baby desert she had the other day??? Bananas she has had before but not strawberries.. Also can it occur in that area?
Thank you everyone for your advice. My ped is out of town until Monday so thats why I turned here for advice. If it had gotten any worse I would have taken her to the urgent care. I put hydrocortisone on it and they are now gone. I threw the strawberry banana-apple dessert away and will stay away from strawberries for awhile. If they reappear I will take her in...Thank you

Hi C. Call your daughter pediatrican and see what he/she saids about the bumps. You don't want to waste time getting advice off of the internet. Especially for a child her age.
Could def. be the strawberries. Don't give them to her again without talking to her doctor, my ped. told me with foods especially strawberries to not give it to them if you think they have had a reaction because when they are young like that the allergy symptoms can be alot stronger than when they are older.
My son had a reaction to strawberries and any other berries. It gave him a rash on his butt. His ped said to wait a few months and try them again. He was about 15 months at the time. I havent tried them again but probably will soon. Your daugther may be too young for berries.
I don't really have an answer of what it could be, however I am pretty sure that if she was allergic to the strawberry, you would have seen a rash around her mouth, she might have gotten a little diarrhea. It might be a heat rash, or dry skin, or an yeast diaper rash, I can only speculate. Does she look uncomfortable, do you think it itches, are they getting bigger, more or do they look irritated? If it doesn't clear, I would bring her into the pedi's office just because even a pedi/nurse cannot diagnose a rash on the phone--it's just one of those things.
Hope it clears soon!
Is it like a rash? That happened to my first daughter when she was young and we gave her strawberries. I believe we gave her benadryl and her doctor told us it was from the strawberries and it would go away, not to worry. We didn't try strawberries again until she was older than 2 and didn't even try them with our second until she was older than 2 as well.
strawberry is a high allergen and the desserts have high fructose corn syrup in them too, so eliminate that food from her diet and see what happens.
If there was a fever also then it may just be a viral rash, but I bet it was the food.
An allergy to Strawberries does not necessarily happen around the mouth. My daughter had her first reaction only on her stomach down to her pelvic area. The second time a month later she got it on her chin and chest. If it doesn;t go away in another day (doctor said a reaction could last a couple of days and be a delayed reaction as well) then call the doc to have it checked.
My daughter is 15 months old and has been eating berries for several months now. I never thought to ask if she could have berries or anything she just started taking them from my plate one day and every time I ate them thereafter. I brought some to her daycare with her one day and I thought the teachers were going to have a fit. I actually had to take the strawberries off the premises with me when I left for work. I was informed that strawberries are a very high allergen for children under 2 years of age. She never had a problem before but the last time she ate strawberries she broke out in a rash. Needless to say she won't be trying them again until the appropriate age. Glad to hear that the hydrocortisone cream worked for you and that your little girl is ok.
Good advice so far. You could also check that it is not yeast. My daughter has had a few yeast infections (she is 15 mos. but first got one at 4 mos.) and they do look like little red bumps around the vagina but satellite bumps can crop up on the thighs, bum, and tummy. You could try taking a break from the strawberry, see if it clears up. If it doesn't, try treating for diaper rash and keeping the area extra dry. If she still has it, then time to head to the ped to see if it is yeast, which is easily treated with prescription cream.
Happy Mommy-ing!
My son gets tiny bumps (not the normal allergic mosquito type welts) when he eats apples. For my son, it's not a severe allergy, but you may want to watch your daughter with strawberries and especially when you introduce new foods since sometimes food allergies come in multiples. Keep a little benedryl on hand just in case you see more severe symptoms.
Do you give your daughter a bath? Girls do get vaginal
infections or rashes. Please have her tested for allergies
so get an appointment with her physician.
It sounds as if it's the diaper area. Stop the strawberries and find out. It may be a change in liquid which would effect her urine, but it could be the material of the diapers, too.
