I second those who say go to a dermatologist. It could also be psoriasis--there are more and more ways of treating this all the time, including over-the-counter salves.
good luck!

What did the doctor say? My 9 year old had that happen earlier in the year where he broke out in hives all over his body. The doctor's first concern was to look at the spots closely and see if they were raised or not. They weren't so they figured he wasn't dealing well with the Vitamin C I was giving him out of concern for the flu going around. So I stopped that and the spots went away. If they were bumpy, she said that would have meant something different. The other thing is he could be having an allergic reaction to something. Did he try new foods? Did you change detergents or soaps recently? It could be eczema. Again, you haven't said what the doctor said.
You said your Doctor "thinks" it "might" be some sort of fungus... so to me that means he does not know what it is.
So.. you have to get it diagnosed, still.
Or see a Dermatologist.... or take him to the ER in case it is something else.
So what else did your son's Doctor do? Nothing? Just send you back home with no conclusion? That sounds lame. I would be irked.
good luck,"

I would take him to a dermatologist. I don't think you need to take him to the ER as someone else suggested.
It sounds like it could be eczema. Try putting hydrocortisone on it twice a day. If it clears up, it was probably eczema. In the long run, be sure that you keep the skin hydrated with a really good lotion. My whole family uses Renew lotion to clear up our eczema.
Dear J., I find it unusual that a doctor does not know what it is. If the bumps are large it could be hives. If they are small it could be German Measles. Is it itchy? Have you tried to rub a little Benadryl cream on it? If it responds to this then it could be a reaction or an allergy to something. I hope you find the answer. Grandma Mary
go see a dermatologist. I love Dr. Rothflesich. He is in East Brunswick.
Where is the rash? If it is a fungus rash is can be cleared up with dandruff shampoo.
Did the doctor give your son anything to treat it? It sounds like the doctor is not really sure, so he should give you a referral to a dermatologist. This way, you can get a definite diagnosis and the condition can be treated correctly. Good luck!
