Hello Moms!!! Today I have noticed some redness irritation on my daughter's "Sunflower" This is very strange because I change her diapers on regular basis, however she sleeps in one night diaper from 8pm-8am. I use Mustela products and I give her bath every night. What went wrong? She is 16m she has never experienced anything like it. I am still breastfeeding so I wonder if there was a reacation from my consumption. Any advise would be greatly appriciated.

What can I do next?

Thank you very much Everyone for your time and your advise. The very same day I have noticed three teeth cutting in on the same time. Within 24 hours the redness was completely gone. Your words of wisdom is always greatly appriciated. B..

Hi,
Well I have a boy. But he had a really bad diaper rash a few weeks ago. And what worked wonders was California Baby's Calendula Cream and Avalon Organics Diaper Cream/Balm (it has the most zinc oxide than any other product without harsh/toxic chemicals). The way I did it was I put the calendula cream on first and be real generous and leave a thin layer that is visible too. And then on top of that put the diaper cream/balm but blot it so as not to rub or smear away that layer of calendula cream. My mother in law was just commenting how awesome his little butt looks these days. And I like these two products because they are natural with no chemicals or toxins. I use everthing organic and natural without chemical, etc. for my son and I'm happy with the products and feel good about using it on him. Oh, also, I stopped using "Huggies" wipes and went to 7th generation and/or 365 degrees brand from the Whole Foods store. Both wipes have no alcohol and are non-irritating and have aloe vera in them. Hope you find something that helps.

Hi Beata,

I have a daughter that is 5, but has always had very sensitive skin, especially when during her first couple of years. she was constantly getting redness or irritations in the private areas and on the tushy. even to this day she still experiences little red bumps on her tushy. sometimes it was caused by antibiotics, sometimes it was caused by not wiping good enough from her diaper/pull up. however, i have a company that specializes in skin products called inkomfe! they work wonders on any skin dryness or irritations or scalp areas. i have truly been using the skin repair cream w/mle on her entire body. i have even put the cream on her tushy and private areas, obviously not "in". within hours the redness calms down and any bumps or usually gone within a day. other areas of her body benefit because of the dryness she has. i have had many customers praise about the products because they are safe to use on all children and pregnant women. you can check out the website at www.inkomfe-usa.com. if you want, i can even send you a sample. just provide your address and i will get one out to you!! i hope this helps.

Hi, Beata. OK. I'm not sure what the sunflower is - I'm assuming it's part of her vaginal area. I also am not familiar with Mustela products so I'm feeling quite clueless here.

However, my daughter is almost 22 months and she often gets irritation in that area. It can happen because of what she ate (new fruit juice, too much fruit or spaghetti sauce), what I ate (I'm still breastfeeding too), if she poops and doesn't tell me and wears the dirty diaper for longer than a few minutes, etc. She also gets a bad diaper rash if she's teething.

I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste and it generally clears up after 1-2 applications. I also keep some sensitive wipes on hand (no dye, no fragrance) because those hurt less when they're sore. My little one has very sensitive skin and if she has a bad rash, even gentle wiping hurts her. It's heartbreaking to see them in pain, but of course you have to wipe and apply the ointment.

I think it's just a normal part of life but if you're concerned you can always consult her pediatrician.

Believe it or not, it might be a yeast infection. My daughter had a slight one when she was 4 months old and the pediatrician told me to use Monistat. This freaked me out a bit since I didn't use Monistat until I was in my late 20's! But it cleared up in just a day or so. If you see some small white bumps, it's probably a yeast infection. See what your doc recommends, but you can probably go ahead and try the Monistat. Good luck!

I'm not sure, but here are some ideas. One, if she's most exposed to irritants in her single overnight diaper, maybe do her bath in the morning? Fine a place where an accident isn't a problem and let her air out? Make sure she drinks enough (especially your milk and water) so that the urine isn't as concentrated? Good luck, and to you and Cecilia - this too shall pass!
