Regions $8 Monthly Checking Account Fee?

We got hammered with an $8 monthly fee this month on our bank statement, did anyone else? I have emailed them asking why since it is after hours. Just wondered if anyone could answer my question. Nothing changed with our account deposit wise and we have had far less money in there than what we have now so I am clueless.

TIA

I checked their website because I was curious. There are 2 types of checking accounts which **could** have an $8 monthly fee under "certain circumstances". They are:

LifeGreen® Checking - You have direct deposit and want unlimited check writing.
No Monthly Fee with:
$1,500 average monthly statement balance
OR
Direct deposit (payroll or government) per statement cycle of at least $500 single deposit
OR
$1,000 combined direct deposits

OTHERWISE
$8 Base Account Fee

LifeGreen eAccess Account: You do most of your banking online, with little check writing.
No Monthly Fee with:
10 Regions card purchases (debit or credit) per statement cycle
OTHERWISE
$8 per month with Online Statements (optional standard paper statements available for $2 a month)

The other 3 types of checking have fees that are higher than $8.

Yes, a bank I had been with forever suddenly started charging me $15.
I couldn't believe it.
I called in & they told me they had sent a disclosure letter out beforehand.
They said basically just to the cost of doing business.
Ridiculous.
I changed banks immediately to a credit union.

You do usually get a disclosure notice about 8 weeks in advance. Most of this mail looks like junk.

We bank with BOA and no fees whatsoever for personal and business. Same with Chase for another business account.

I've never paid fees and won't pay fees. They can look at our current and history and if a fee is instated we won't hesitate to change and we run all personal and business ( big) through them.

Most banks are asking us for business but so far... No reason to switch due to good service with both BOA and Chase.,

Talk to your local bank advisor to get a deal or switch

I can't give you specifics on your own situation, but I have never payed for a checking account in my life and suggest that if your bank is going to charge you a monthly fee, to look for your banking needs elsewhere. To me, $8 would have to be budgeted...I'd switch.

Some banks changed their account setups and standards in the past year, making a lot of people go form formerly free checking to fee-checking. You probably got a notification about it in tiny 7 point font.

Our account is still free, but that is because we meet the requirement of having a direct deposit. If we didn't have a direct deposit, there would be a minimum balance requirement (I think it said $2500) to avoid the fee.

I also have a second checking account online through Capital One 360 (formerly ING Direct) that has no fees and no deposit/minimum requirements.

My bank started charging $4 a month to get the copies of the checks printed on the back of the statements? Really? I cancelled that option and the $4 fee stopped.
