My baby boy is only 6 months old now. But I am told that if we want to send him to a good pre-school, we need to register him from now and put him on the waiting list. Does anyone have such experience? How special are the pre-schools?

This is the craziest thing--but yes I put my daughter on a "Preschool list"--at Temple Baptist-in Dec 2004 for the September 2005 which she was only 12 months and would have been 20 months when school started --Once you get in at any preschool you have 1st bids for the following year--check out your Preschools 1st--wish I had did a little more research --I have my daughter now 3 1/2 and Twins turning 2 and have been on Trietsch Preschool list for a year trying to get all 3 in at the same time that -a pain because I am not a memember of the church nor has she been enrolled and either she gets enrolled and they don't or vice versa --it is an Awesome Christian School--so again do a little research some have more schooling or more socialization or more crafts or more reading no naps more time for naps and certains days you want or need etc.. depends on what you want-

But I Love Temple Baptist go see Tonia who is the Director--Big Yellow Chruchon 2499 near Animias

I can tell you that I just pre-registered my son for the 2-year-old preschool class that begin in August and it is very competitive here in Flower Mound. We are actually members at Trietsch and were not able to get him pre-registered because of the number of siblings and members in front of us. He is now registered at Faith Lutheren because I got him on the waiting list early. I think the waiting lists open up to a year in advance. So, the best advice I have is to research the schools and place your son's name on any waiting lists as soon as you can to be safe.

Only the smallest or most select schools would require such a long lead for registration. There is one very good, but very small center in Denton that I put my daughter's name on when she was 10 months old. She's almost 3 and we still haven't had a call :-). However, we found a perfectly fine preschool for her when it was time, and we had to wait about 3 months for an opening. From that experience, I'd say putting your child's name on a list a year ahead of time wouldn't be a bad idea.

My boys have attended Primrose (on Morriss Road) since they were 3-months-old. (They're now 5 and 3.) We've LOVED it! Check them out at www.primroseflowermound.com

I was told the same thing too...but after calling all the local preschools in my area they said that it's just not true. There ARE a couple of them that do get waiting lists but she said that most of the ones on the list DO get in... if you're willing to wait it out. My son will be 2 in JUly... and registration for most places started in February. I got him in the program I wanted without any problem at all.

It depends on the pre-school. If you are wanting him in an "elite" school, you may want to contact them to find out how soon you need to get on the wait list. I had to get my son on a list when he was 1 for a school that he attended after he turned 3. (That was 5 years ago) Now that my daughter is 3, I have found that most pre-schools have spots available without needing to get on a waiting list. But I don't think it would be a waste of time to start looking at schools now.
I hope this helps!

No need to register before your child has all his front teeth. :-) I started my search when my twins were 18 mo. (fall 2005) for entry Fall 2006 and we had plenty of choices. That said, wait lists do begin to form the year prior to enrollment, so you may want to start in the late summer investigating preschool programs. I looked at nine schools in F.M. and Lewisville and chose Montessori Episcopal School. (Plse. see my referral on mamasource for more info.) Good luck! J.
