Reglan During Pregnancy

from what I know....my husband was prescribed this med and found that it can cause leg tremors so he is now on Nexium...don't know any other adverse effects I would look into this more

I took Zofron through both pregnancies and that is pretty common. I was on it for 3-4 months with both of my girls. I took Reglan right before my C-section to control vomiting and it gave me a major panic attack. The nurse said that panic attacks are one of the side effects that some people have.

I'm sure it's safe. I took it while I was breastfeeding b/c after you deliver it can help increase your milk supply. I will say however, that I had every adverse effect possible! It was a nightmare! I was very agitated, restless and just overall kind of 'crazy' all the time. When I stopped taking it, it went away, but it freaked me out and I wasn't able to function very well. I may have just been a statistic, I really don't know, but if you do take it, just be in tune with your body and if you notice anything weird, stop and get on something else.

These are both anti-nausea meds, talk to your doctor about them

I have tried Reglan during a stay in the hospital for hyperemesis during one of my pregnancies, but did not react well to it (a side effect is agitation, and I got that big time). But, I have 5 children and have taken Zofran and other anti-vomiting drugs (similar to Reglan) with each of them for the whole 9 months and none of my children had side effects, and really those drugs (plus hospital stays) were the only thing that got me and my babies through the pregnancies. So if you need medication and Reglan does not work or you choose not to take it, there are other options to keep you and baby well.

This isn't directly in answer to the question you asked, but Reglan is commonly prescribed for severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (or hyperemesis gravidarum). Hyperemesis can be quite serious for mother and baby, which is why most women with it need to take a drug such as Reglan to help control the vomiting and they cannot rely on "natural" remedies. I was completely against taking any meds while pregnant w/my son but when I was pregnant w/my daughter I really did not have a choice. I tried everything herbal & was prescribed 3 different meds for my nausea one being reglan. It was the only thing that helped me to be able to function and to prevent me from losing weight or being dehydrated. I believe that it is the only reason why I was not hospitalized. My daughter is perfect. Yes, there are risks with any drug but if you trust your dr. and nothing else helps I say go for it. Good luck & I hope you're feeling better soon!

Reglan was the ONLY thing that controlled my all day long (instead of morning only) sickness. I have a beautiful, healthy, way-to-smart-for-his-own-good little boy who is 19mo. No issues. I have seen the class action stuff, but from what I read, the side effects leading to that stemmed from long-term use. I only had to take it for 4 weeks.

There are several class action suits regarding the drug reglan.... you should look further into this before taking the medicine... perhaps look into a herbal remedy for nausea... in my opinion, any drug while your pregnant can cause a risk for your unborn child.

Why worry? The doctor prescribed it so it is safe. He knows you are pregnant. He would not do anything to harm you or the baby. He is trying to keep you and the baby well for baby's arrival.

My dad was prescribed that when he was going through chemo. I have seen several ads on TV for lawyers advertising settlement cases against the manufacturer because of some pretty bad side effects.

I'd stay away from it.

I also took Reglan during my pregnancy. You can google the drug and it will list all the information you will need to know about it. As with any drug you weigh the risks and benefits and decide what is best for you. It did work for me and I had no side effects.

You can go to drugs.com, which is a great resource, and look up medications and side effects. Reglan can have various side effects, some can be allergic type reactions as well as just side effects. Neurological symptoms may be one of the worst. Side effects usually go away when the drug is stopped.
Zofran is often used in pregnancy, one of it's side effects can be headaches. Antiemetics to control nausea and vomiting can be given IV at home to OB patients and have taken care of many. Check with your Dr.
Also there are nutritional products that can be helpful that are safe, often used as prenatals. With experience in both areas, I will respond with email, if you request information. N/V of pregnancy is often related to a vitamin deficiency, and lack of absorption by the body.

A good natural remedy for nausea is ginger. You can eat candied ginger, drink real ginger ale (health food stores), ginger tea, take ginger capsules. It works wonders. I would take a couple ginger capsules when I felt sick during my pregnancy and it would be gone quickly.

For ginger tea just peel and slice thin a 1 inch piece of fresh ginger root. Put it in about 4 cups of almost boiling water and steep it for 10-20 minutes. Add some honey or sugar for sweetening if wanted.

All of these also are great for when the family is sick with a bug, or for car trips to avoid car sickness. :) Good luck.

With my first child and I also had morning sickness morning, noon and night. I had to call in sick a couple of times because I felt like it was so unbearable. Unlike you, I was throwing up all day. All I could suggest is to drink No to morning sickness tea to ease your belly. It was the only remedy worked for my sickness.

I took reglan for a long time with my current pregnancy and it worked great! I ended up moving to a new state and my new dr told me that a side effect of reglan is depression. I wasnt taking it anymore so I didnt look into it anymore but it might be something you want to check into! I hope it gets better! I am going through my 3 rd pregnancy and have 9 months, 24/7 "morning sickness" and I know how tough it is!

I took it maybe 2 times while I was pregnant, I didn't want to take medications at all because I was worried about the side effects for the baby, despite the doctor's reassurance that it was safe. It's prescribed for patients on chemo to help with nausea and vomiting, but is supposed to be safe for pregnant women suffering from the same thing. I stopped taking it because I didn't really see enough of a difference to make it worth continuing-though I admit I didn't give it much of a try-and was later relieved that I didn't continue taking it because I saw adds on tv from lawyers proposing settlement opportunities for people who took that drug. You should definitely do some research before you take it and decide on your own if you feel comfortable taking it. It might work for you with relieving that horrible nausea and vomiting, so it may be worth it and I do normally trust the doctor when he says something is safe...I'm just a paranoid person I guess.

I took reglan withe 3 of my pregnancies, and I am just fine and so are my children. It is in the B category for pregnancy. For me, it was the only thing that worked, as I was so sick I could not take care of my other children. I read what Christina wrote, and wanted to tell you that if you expect this medicine to work, you HAVE to take it just as it is prescribed. I even set alarms at night so I did not have a lapse between dosing. It was wonderful! I was finally able to eat, and I stopped losing weight. I didn't notice any side effects, either. I would give it a try, because in most people, it is really effective. Good luck. I know it's no fun to feel sick.
