Hi G.:
I have worked for Cherry Creek schools and have 2 sons attending them at the present time. If I were you I would look to locate somewhere that has Cherokee Trail or Grandview as the high schools...the feeder schools for those two high schools should be just as good as they are. Hope this helps

Hi!

I agree with what most of the ladies on here have said.
Cherry Creek Schools and Douglas CO. schools are both great. I grew up in Littleton and now live in Parker, CO. One reason I moved to parker was so my daughter could attend a Douglas CO. school.

If your looking to move to Aurora, make sure that you move to the SE Aurora area, not all parts of Aurora are in the "Cherry Creek School District"

Depending on where your Hubby is working, Parker CO isn't far from Aurora either.

Good Luck with everything and Happy Moving!!

J.

Douglas County schools are right up there with Cherry Creek, if not better. Check out the Highlands Ranch area, it's fabulous and there all levels of housing!
Best of luck,

Hi! We relocated to Aurora in June from Iowa and love it here! We have 2 pre-schoolers, a 1st grader at Sunrise and our nephew lives with us and goes to Eagle Crest High School, both Cherry Creek Schools. When looking for a house in Aurora make sure it's in Arapahoe County not Adams, too much bankruptcy in Adams and people are having trouble getting loans. We bought a pre-foreclosure and remodeled. Now's the time to buy with housing prices down. We were from a smaller town too and our house here cost twice what our last house cost and everyone has told us we got a great deal on it! Hope this helps!

Wow are you lucky to be moving right now. The number of houses in foreclosure are astounding. You can easily pick one up in your price range and pay about 25% of the cost. You have to look around and find a realtor that can help you shop for one that is in good condition. I've seen some that were in move in condition but got sold before I could put an offer on it. They sold that day. Anyways, this is the way to go. The Kinslow Team has been helping me try to move up and showing me foreclosures that were in great condition. Their phone number is: ###-###-####. Please tell them that L. referred you. Sandy is awesome and can really help you out.

Hi G. - I am a 4th generation Denver native so I know and love it well. Yes - Cherry Creek Schools are the best public system however, it depends on which part of the district you settle in. The schools that are the highest rated are Belleview and Cherry Hills Elementary, Campus or West Middle School. Both feed into Cherry Creek High School - that is nationally know for its academic excellence. Good luck in your move - L.

Hi G.,

My name is L. and I have a 16 yr. old as well. Well, actually she just turned 17 on the 9th. She went to Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora. We live in Centennial, which is literally one block away from Aurora. Anyway, the school is great and the teachers are as well, but if she decided to attend there or anywhere around the area, your 16 yr. old has to be ready for a lot of rich kids. Some are nice, but most are, well, pretty snobby. My daughter is being homeschooled now because she had a baby, yeah.......talk about shocking our Christian home, but will probably be returning either to Cherokee Trail or to Grandview High School. I would not suggest Smokey Hill High School.....nor Washington High School. Though they don't have the drug issues the first two schools I mentioned have, they have a ton of gang violence issues.

Your online friend,
L.

Being a teacher, I did a lot of research when finding a job. The best bet is Cherry Creek school district or Douglas County School district. Parker, CO is near Aurora and still in the Douglas County School District with a great middle school and high school.

Let me know if you have any questions, we just moved here in June and I will be a mom for the first time.

Hi! I live in SE Aurora and yes Cherry Creek schools are the best. You can get more information on the schools by visiting their website: http://www.ccsd.k12.co.us/

As for housing, looking to rent or buy? There are a lot of housing for rent or sale in the south aurora area which resides in the cherry creek district. I have a neighbor who just moved to Aurora from Arizona, the house was for rent with an option to buy. Personally I would stick with South Aurora suburbs (Arapahoe County) or Centennial which borders Aurora. Check listings out at: http://www.rentalhouses.com/

Hope this helps you. Good Luck!

My husband and I recently relocated to the area as well. I am a teacher and was going through a similar debate Cherry Creek Schools vs. Douglas County Schools. And if I could make any recommendation, see what you can do, if it is not too late to locate near a Douglas County Schools. They are fabulous! I could not have been more pleased with our decision from a professional standpoint or for our future children. I have friends who teach in Cherry Creek Schools and what I hear in the way of standards/student expectations does not come close to my experience with Douglas Co. Schools. Not to mention Douglas County Schools provide more technology to students/teachers, more integration of art, PE, music, on a daily basis in the classroom. They also cover a more desirable living area. Please look at each schools School Accountability Report (SAR), which is required by the State/Gov. & will provide very helpful info about school achievement when narrowing down a school/neighborhood.

G.,
You DO NOT want Aurora Public Schools for sure. I can give you a long list of reasons.... Cherry Creek Schools and Douglas County Schools are the best in the area....and test wise/performance metro area. As for living in Aurora, we moved from there last year. Be very careful where you chose. You want to be as far south or southeast as possible and do not count out Parker as a possibility. It is a very nice area. I know a great realtor in the area if you would like her information (you may already have one). She is also a teacher in Douglas County Schools as her other job and is excellent.

Welcome to Colorado!
You're moving to a great place. Cherry Creek & Douglas County schools are tops. Living in the tech center is more expensive, so I live in Parker and am very happy with just about everything here. They have parades, Santa visits our neighborhood - it is very family friendly. If you're looking for churches, Cherry Creek Presbyterian is wonderful. Let me know if I can help more. I've moved a lot.

I have lived in the Aurora/Littleton area for 23 years. My three sons attended Aurora Public Schools and had a great education. The town of Parker has great schools which is Douglas County and Cherry Creek has great schools. What I did when I moved here was get involved in PTA and volunteered in the classroom that's where you find out about teachers. Also go to the grocery store of the neighborhood you want to live in it tells a lot about who your neighbors will be. Go to the schools and ask how long have the teachers been on staff (if it is a good school teachers stay). My best friend's sons attended Eagle Crest High School in Aurora and liked it. Another friend's daughter attended Eagle Crest too and was awarded a scholarship to Regis University. I raised 3 sons in this area and now have 2 grandsons Colorado is a great place to live. Welcome!

Hi G.,

The Cherry Creek School District is great. There are a LOT of schools all over Aurora. It all depends on the area. You can see how the schools are ranked in the state if you look at the CSAP results. My kids are in elementary school in the district and we are pleased. BE very discerning about where you move in. There are a lot of newer areas in Aurora but there are also a lot of areas with property values going down. Just get a lot of information to make your decision. You are going to love Colorado. It is a great state. Good Luck on your move!
