I am a SAHM of 2 and my husbands work talked to him yesterday about us moving to Conway area (he works at Frac Tech - oil/gas industry) we should know for sure tomorrow or the next day but we are pretty sure its gonna happen. Which means they will want my hubby there with in 2-3 weeks and will put him in a hotel for only a couple weeks. So basically I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and have to find a place in another state and pack and move us in about a month to 6 weeks time!! AHH!!! Anyways. . . I have NO clue about the areas! My husband will be working off 65 N and doesnt want to live TOO far as he usually has some pretty long hours and doesnt want to add a long drive on top of that. Since he works a lot and I am a SAHM I don't really want to be living in a dangerous area if there is even one up there either. Any advice would be soooooo helpful! Also, in order to get some time to myself and keep my sanity (lol) I like to go to the gym and such. Is there any good ones in the area with good child care, good classes and thats not outragously expensive? If anyone wants a workout buddy even better! ;) Anyways anything yall can tell me about the area or even possible places to rent/rent to own would be GREAT! Also if there are any of yall that get together for playdates and wouldnt mind and additional mom and kiddos joining ya PLEASE let me know as I dont know anyone out there! Thanks again! :)

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

I live in Vilonia, which is 30 minutes from Conway. My mom lives in Conway. My husband works in Conway, also. Conway is a nice college town. There are 5 colleges there, and it's like living in a small city. There are many shopping conveniences, and 2 Walmarts. My mom is LDS, and there is only 1 church there, but 2 wards. Depending where you live is which ward you will go to. Conway is safe, and there are lots of fun things for your kids to do there. One poster mentioned lindsey apartments, as a place to rent. My mom lives in a 1 bedroom, and loves it. Hers is a quiet area with a clubhouse, fitness center, and pool. The rent is very inexpensive as well. If you want to live in a smaller community, you might consider Vilonia, where I live. This small town is chock-full of young SAHM's. We have a fitness center called PACE. It's 24 hrs., with electronic key entry, so you can go when you want to go. It also has a kids area while you work out. Pace offers circuit-training, aerobics, martial arts, weights, and has an indoor track. The prices aren't too bad either. Another option you might consider is Greenbrier. It's closest to 65 N. I don't know too much about the area, but my husband has family there. It is also a safe small town. If you have any questions, let me know, and I'll do my best to answer them for you. Good luck with your move!

HEY!! I just moved to Conway in May and it is a wonderfully calm town!! My son goes to Ms. Carrie's DaySchool (he is 9 months old) and I really like it there. You can probably do a Yellow Pages search online and see what other options are in town!! (the zipcode is 72034, 72033)
As for gyms go, there is a Curves and Annette is the owner and she is wonderful!! She is very personable and always keeps up with people, so you aren't having to retell your story when you go in!
As far as places to rent go, I'm not sure!! Our town newspaper is the Log Cabin Democrat. You might be able to google it and then go to the website and type in a search on places to rent! I have not heard, however, of any really dangerous places here. (that doesn't mean they don't exist, i just haven't heard of them!!)One place you can look is lindseymanagement.com there are some apartments listed in the paper and ave that website at the bottom.
Starting in February, there is a group called Women Run Arkansas. They train you and work you up to run the 5k in May. You can go to sportyrunner.com and look at links, there should be something there!
If you would like, you can email me and I will assist you when/how I can!! I'm in college in the mornings, but out by noon!!
Good luck on your move!! It is kind of small town, but it is wonderful!! -----A. ____@____.com

I have lived in and around Conway since I came to college in 1998. My husband and I loved the town so much we never left. There aren't any dangerous areas in Conway, but there are some that are less than desirable and there are certainly some very unfortunate landlords. There are several gyms in the area and some do provide child care. If you need specific information feel free to contact me I would be happy to give you clarification on any of the areas. I'm an art teacher in one of the local school districts but will be going on maternity leave soon for our second so I'll be looking for a mom's group soon myself. Good luck with your move and welcome to Conway!
