Hi All,

We are considering a move to south eastern Pennsylvania or south western New Jersey. I'm looking for any suggestions for a small town (anywhere from a population of 700- 7000) with some of the following features: good schools, fresh water (lakes, rivers, etc), hiking and nature, arts and culture, good restaurants, low crime, reasonable housing and standard of living, and within an hour's drive of some colleges/universities.

Searching the internet is a bit overwhelming, so I figured I'd hit up my favorite group of moms for some advice and honesty.

Thanks so much, in advance!!

Moorestown, NJ is one of the nicest towns in NJ. Yes, the taxes are high but the schools are incredible. PA will be a bit cheaper but NJ has it all. Within a hour drive you can get to lakes, mountains, beaches, forests, cities, shopping, ect. I am not originally from NJ and I can tell you that it is the most misunderstood state.

PA, I think, is much nicer. People are more down to earth. NJ can be very, very expensive. Taxes are high and car insurance is the highest in the nation. The suburbs are very commutable to NYC.

Try the greater Philly area - King of Prussia and around. Lots of colleges around there. Try Lansdale. Philly is fairly close and it will give you all of the culture you need. IF you want more - NYC is 90 minutes.

Good luck!

I have friends that live in Cherry Hill...just moved from Haddonfield. That whole little area there is a group of small towns (Voorhees, etc...) with really cute housing and shopping. Schools are good and it's 20 minutes from Philly.
They really like it, and housing has been affordable.

Bethlehem, PA is nice. I lived there for 3 years earning my Master's Degree. Moravian's founded it back in 1741. It is really small town feel.
Moravian College, Lehigh Valley College, International Institute for Restorative Practices and others.

Lititz, PA, is good too. Depending on where you want to settle. There are a lot of Mennonites there near Lancaster, PA.

Sorry you are moving.
All the Best.
