The best part of town is the North Side of town. Around 1604 and Stone Oak. Don't really know anything about renting. I personally think it's wasting money renting. Hope this helps.

You can get onto rent.com or apartments.com to at least get an idea about the rental costs. My husband and I have a nice 2 bed 2 1/2 bath townhome on the northwest part of town. It has 1200 sqft and we are inside of a gate. We live right by Northern Hills which is a nice area. We pay 776 but that is with a military discount so the normal rent is a little higher than that. You can also call the san antonio police department and they should either be able to give you crime specs on areas of town or they will have a number or web site you can go to. We have moved several times and this has always worked out for us. The police departments are always very nice about it. Hope this helps.

I have lived in SAN ANOTNIO for 1.5 years. After living in Vegas, Ft. Walton Beach and Germany, I can honestly say I like this place the best. We live in the northwest, by Seaworld. We based the decision on where we purchased our house according to the research I conducted on the school district. I beleive NISD is the best choice over all the other S.D. around. These schools are even better than the ones in the other city's that I have lived in. They have higher standards for students to meet and the teachers are willing and able to help the kids that struggle. There are many new elementary schools planned for this booming area. We live outside of Loop 1604 so there are no city taxes, but taxes in general are high. Good area's would be Encino (North of town, outside 1604) but they are expensive, Stone Oak area is where a lot of business thrive, Alamo Heights is an older neighborhood, but the most beautiful place to live, hence the higher price tag. Farther south, on Loop 1604 and Potranco is now booming. You should get in while the market is still available. There are new sub-divisons going all along Potraco (Red Bird, Sundance, Bella Vista and if you want land with your house there is Rolling Oaks.) Walmart is almost finished construction on 1604 and Potranco, they will widen the 2 lane road and put in a stop light. All 4 corners have new buildings under contruction. Rumor has it that Walt Disney World bought 600 Acres off of Potranco and 211. Citi Bank has their corporation on 211. I live in Westcreek off of Potranco. Westcreek is a large subdision with 2 elementsry schools, 2 parks, each with a pool. McMillin Homes has broken ground and just paved their streets. Look them up online to get their prices for the 1st phase. Other home builders here are KB Homes (bad Rep), DR Horton, Armadillo, Centex (low quality). Search anywhere in the NISD school district. Look them up online to see the boundary's. I would suggest anywhere from Potranco outside of Loop 1604 north to Encino. Helotes has a small town atmosphere (1604/Bandera Road). Here is the web address of the realtor we used. She is as friendly as all get out and works hard for her client, always keeping them in the know. www.cbharper.com (Coldwell Banker) Her name is Sherry Murchison and here is how to contact her:

###-###-#### Cell
###-###-#### Direct
____@____.com
(just tell her M. sent you)

I hope this helped. I did a lot of looking online and a lot of questioning before I moved here. Just ream from my knowledge (and ask Sherry for help too - she'll e mail listings to you)

An April baby? my husband's birthday is April 4th. As far as were to live guess that varries on who you ask. We in live in Alamo Heights, its an upper middle class area. the schools are wonderful, small in size and lots of security. As far as rent cost that too varries depending on square foot and number of rooms. ( 3 bedrooms normally run about 825-1,000 ) Be sure to look around before settling on an apartment. We had military friends that moved here from El Paso and hurried into a, though really nice, apartment, overly priced at 1,200.

From OR? Canyonville myself and worked in Roseburg.
Good Luck

Well it all really depends on how much you can afford. Somewhere on the north side of town is your best bet. I would definately have to say stay away from the East, West, and South sides of town. They are really crime and drug infested. These little boys decided they want to be gang members again(morons are what they are). Also a really good place to live would be anywhere outside of Loop 1604 From Hwy 90 all the way up to I35 N. There are great subdivisions outside of 1604 and military. Good luck in your hunt.
