I do not talk with ANY company that calls me.

I don't care how great they are, if they make claims such as what you mentioned, my red flags go up and I would assume they want to get into your computer and gain access to all your files, including banking, etc.

NO WAY, would I do this.. If you feel like you need help with the computer, take it to a reputable place to have it checked out. No one should be cold calling with this type of thing..

I've had calls from the "bank" notifying me to change my password and enter my SS number right now for my protection. Little did they know, I was online banking at the time and I knew my account was not compromised.

Shiesters.... they'll try anything and they usually get someone, somewhere to fall for it.

Yeah...remember that basically no O. cares except YOU if you have spyware/malware/virus issues.

Don't answer calls when you don't know the caller. If you have caller ID let them leave a message and if they don't that's your first clue as to whether they are trustworthy. You can check for the scam and malware yourself at the web site that was given out www.dcwg.org, or download a malware/spyware program for free even from cnet.com or online at a safe place. They haven't called me yet but I won't answer if they do.

oooh heck no!!! if a company called me and told me that my computer was sending them messages? I would say - PROVE IT!! Pound sand baby. If my computer was "spamming you"? send me an e-mail.

Anything to get a scam or money - or private information.

DO NOT give information to a company that calls you...even someone purporting to be from your bank or credit card. You get their name and phone number and then call the number on the back of your card.

I got one of those calls. First they asked for someone whose name was not mine. I told them they had the wrong numbr. Then they launched into the "Our tech support team has seen that your computer..." and I cut them off with "My employer is my tech support team." Those calls are just the telphone version of a pop-up.

I got a call similar to that many months ago. I told the guy I would call my own computer tech and if there was a problem, he would fix it. I assumed it was just someone trying to gain access to my computer and any personal information stored on it.

Spybot is a free program available online - it's trustworthy - my company uses it to scan their machines from time to time. It works - I use it at work and at home. Don't use any companies that seek you out, they are likely scamming you and setting you up unknowingly with their own spyware. You can find it here:
