Return of Periods After Breastfeeding?

I recently weaned my 10 month old daughter (2 weeks ago, now on Soy formula), and realized that I should be eventually getting my periods again. I haven't had one since she was born (actually I haven't had one since before the birth of my son, who is 14 months older than my daughter.) So in essence, I haven't had a period in almost 3 years! Can anyone tell me how long it took for their periods to return after they stopped breastfeeding their babies? thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the answers ladies! Trust me, I am in NO rush to get my period back, hahaha! I was just a little curious about whether to expect it soon or not. I have a feeling it's going to take a while for my body to fully realize it's not in 'baby-mode' anymore. At least not for now....

I had the same experience as you, I had my children close together so I had been period free for over 3 years. That was great! When I stopped nursing my last son it took about 6 months for my periods to come back. Unless you are trying to get pregnant again, don't worry about it. Enjoy your period free time, "Aunt Flo" will be back all too soon. :-)

After piggybacking pregnancies and long-time nursings, I have had only 6 periods in the last 6 years. I didn't get them for quite a while after weaning my middle son (a couple of months, I think). But, I do want to tell you that the first one I got after weaning my older two were really rough ones. I seriously thought something was wrong with me because they were so heavy and I was so crampy. After talking with some friends, they told me the same thing happened to them. I just wanted to warn you so that you don't think that there's something really wrong with you if the same thing happens.

You are a lucky, lucky woman! I got my period back a month after giving birth, both times. While breastfeeding. I swear I would have breastfed for years if it meant I could have skipped my period! Oh well. Anyhow, I have no idea what the answer to your question is, but I just wanted to say, ENJOY! =)

I too was recently wondering the same thing. I have a 12month old son who still nurses 2x a day. I have yet to get my period back. I was concerned for a second when i was reading so many women get theirs back so much sooner. then i read more and realized so many women also did not get theirs back until they fully weaned, sometimes 2 years... so, there are many of us out there and we should consider ourselves lucky i guess!
