Hi Kim!
DRMC is behind the times in its handling of labor and delivery. I had a dear friend who wanted to do natural childbirth and planned intentionally for it. Her doctor said he was supportive of it, but once she got to DRMC in labor, the situation was nothing short of a nightmare. Her situation got so bad with the nurses that one of the nurses hand wrote a note and forced her to sign that it saying that it would be her fault if her baby died because she was not wanting pitocin and an epidural. I do not share this story to scare you but to make public to as many women as possible the terrible practices within their labor and delivery department. It is shameful.
Another dear friend used CFW for her 1st delivery. She waited so long to go to the hospital because she was afraid of going to early. She ended up getting to the hospital and discovered she was at a ten so she had a quick and easy natural delivery. However, her midwife was not able to make it in time so she commented that next time they should induce my friend so she could be there for the delivery. That comment along with a couple of others sheds insight into what Susan said about the midwives being more "medically oriented." This is just my personal opinion, but knowing what I know about DRMC and about their midwives being more medically oriented, they seem to me to be more for show to try and drive in a larger population of women rather than truly being committed and supportive of natural childbirth.
My same friend who had her 1st natural childbirth at DRMC, switched to Inanna for her second birth. I have had many friends who have delivered with the midwives at Inanna, and every single story has been one of praise and highest respect for the midwives there. I personally see Dr. Cummings, who is a phenomenal man and doctor, but I have considered the idea of switching to Inanna with my 2nd because of all the amazing things I have heard as well as knowing from my 1st birth what I need to help me be successful in natural delivery.
God's Grace to you,
Lisa :)
