I am a dental hygienist and they are called mamelons. Perfectly normal. Adults don't have the ridges because as we age we wear them down with the things we eat or drink.

My 6-year-old daughter has already lost five teeth, which have grown back quite rapidly. Her new adult teeth have these ridges on the tip, almost like a dull serrations. So far, every new tooth that has grown in has been like this.
She is due for a dentist appointment, so obviously I will be asking him, but have any of you experienced this? What did the dentist say? What is causing this?

My 7 year old son has the samething on his teeth. My dentist
said that it was nothing to worry about.
I have them, and true, they have worn down some as I've gotten older. I HATED them as a kid...now I just accept it as part of my smile. Happy to know what they are called now! If it makes you feel any better...I've never had a cavity! So...at least it isn't something linked to "bad" teeth.
You can actually feel grooves on the surface of my top two front teeth--not visible but definitely there.
I've never had a dentist, in my memory, make any comment about it.
Hi, I'm Dr. Wise, an orthodontist in Frisco/McKinney. What you are seeing are called "mammelons". They are very natural and generally temporary as the teeth will wear down to the nice flat appearance we like. This is a great time to have your child evaluated by an orthodontist to make sure the function of the bite is correct. In addition to a regular dentist, a specialty trained orthodontist has the expertise and experience to help you through tis time of transition and development of your child's smile. You have several good orthodontists in Arlington- Drs. Alexander among them- and they will be thrilled to meet your child for an evaluation. Good luck!!

HI N.,
This is perfectly normal. Our teeth continue to grow and change and the "serration" is there to help. It will eventually go away.

I had ridges too. (im now 31) when i was a junior in highschool and got my braces off my dentist filed my two front upper teeth down. the ridges were no longer visable :)
I have it and my son does too. My dentist has never pointed it out to me as a bad thing, so I am taking it as a normal occurance.
